I agree with you generally. But it seems more to me like Paul should be seen as the one who brought about the ideals of Christianity as it is typically known. After all, he was the one who popularised the Gospel message as it is known now, contradicting Jesus' message in many aspects.

If he did, he impressed so few people that they couldn't even stop him getting nailed up and had to write a lame-ass cover story. The story said that actually him getting executed was part of the plan. It took them thirty years to think up.
