Well, he was asked about it because he talked a lot about it in a 1998 commencement speech he gave to the 7th-day adventists, umm, "college."

He's called the fact that reporters are "digging into his past" and fact-checking his claims "garbage."

So, it's rather, "I have decided to throw my hat into the ring, but if you try to find out anything about my past I will get butthurt.  Also, I'm probably not lying about anything.*"

What I am concerned about is the dumbest of the contingent of republicans, not that any of them would be less than exceptionally dumb, are being weeded out too fast.   I want to see this kind of shit hitting the fan nearer to next November.
