Wait... I don't get it. The job of a parent is to raise their children how they think is best for their child until they become of legal age, right?  It's not to say parents disown their children after they are legal just that after children are old enough to make their own decisions -patents should respect that and not make decisions for them.
I don't understand your point as to why this process shows a lack of empathy on the parents part, could you explain please?

Well if he doesn't care that his child grows into a serial killer, he certainly doesn't have empathy for his child's victims. And while BDSM is a fun hobby or a lifestyle choice that can be very rewarding, Drich isn't instilling fetishes into his children responsibly. It might be that the child grows up to be sexually dysfunctional or might become an abuser himself.

Ha ha...Yeah, okay. You don't expect anyone to believe that, do you? Rolleyes

Good news, Drich...If your child(ren) DO happen to develop a spanking fetish into adulthood, they can just call it Christian Domestic "Discipline".

They can literally call it whatever they want.

Or they can simply thank me as I did my father for teaching me discipline and accountability.

When you know something (done right) absolutely works you will have absolutely no issue or doubt implementing it even if the world is dead set against it.

because she does not follow your/our parenting model. She believes in manipulating and controlling her kids the rest of her life for the sake of 'empathy.'

What he is not learning is empathy or the ability to question authority.

If the kid does not have sense enough not to run out in traffic, and does not have sense or respect for his teacher not to kick and spit in her face then common sense should be telling you that empathy is not a concern he has nor will he have. The child must first be centered and taken out of the mind set that has him endangering himself and others first and foremost. Then he is to be taught not to kick and spit. Once he can be reason with then you can bring in the lessons on empathy. Otherwise what do you think will happen when you try and talk about empathy when his mind is on running out into traffic?

You're assuming that the children have the same level of intellect as you. A lot of children can be very bright and can understand such things as cause, effect and consequences. You could just as easily tell your child about the consequences of running into traffic and scare them into not doing it. Or even show them pictures. Many times children just haven't had a chance to really think about things rather than because they are being naughty. I know that would have cured me of running into traffic more than being beaten would have.

And you say that the child was kicking and spitting. How do we know that the child was not kicking and spitting because he was brought up in a household that regularly beat him? Naughtiness is not necessarily a default behaviour but it can be trained into children.

Even when training dogs, it's a total no-no because what you will get is a neurotic aggressive dog who still hasn't learned the lesson.

Well, in my opinion, dogs do show varied behavior, some respond positively to physical punishment and some respond negatively, so it seems kind of unfair to generalize like that, I give my boy Rambo a good slap in the back when he goes and drinks drainage water it has taught him that behavior will cause him pain so he refrains, he didn't become more aggressive, he actually respects me more and doesn't drink drainage water anymore. Again, it depends on the dog you deal with.

Read again what I wrote. I was talking about punishment that the dog has no way of linking to a specific action of his because it is delayed or otherwise confusing.

I believe children should be educated and able to make their own decisions. I also know that the associations that you make in a child's brain will stay with them for life and that this requires a lot of responsibility.

You haven't even demonstrated that you know what empathy is. Demonstrate to us that you understand the concept and what it means, rather than some dictionary definition.

Lol... What control over any adult does one have over whether or not he decides to be a serial killer or not? If little Drich grows up to be a serial killer then that is who he has chosen or predestined to be. (depending on how you look at the triggers)

Empathy here is not a consideration. What is, is the development of the child. In that I do not care in what he or she feels at the moment of a good swat, what is being considered is the long term respect, accountability, and adherence to their obligations as a member of a family or community.

To talk about empathy in this discussion is as meaningless as talking about how mud 'feels' when it's being driven over. Yes if you were the mud it sucks, but at the same time the goal is not mud that feels good it's crossing the mud in your truck or car without getting stuck.

Who cares what the mud feels like when the goal is moving your car or truck in a given direction.
