I think those older types only liked the USB sticks. (Less current draw).

(1) There wasn't anything plugged into the USB ports at all, it was just a random warning that showed up when I plugged the TV in.
(2) The lines were why the previous owner was getting rid of the TV - I grew up with a rear-projection TV that had a screen that had similar sorts of lines on it because of the texture of the screen so I'm used to that sort of thing. That doesn't bother me so much.
(3) Apparently if you smack the TV just right the lines will go away, but I have yet to find the right location for the smack Tongue
