Pornography - are you for or against it and why?
RE: Pornography - are you for or against it and why?
Tack Wrote:Intent is importnat and it is what this is about. The isn't about intent of a person though. It's the intent of the law. It's also different than the FL preacher because what he did was legal and society thought it was generally morally wrong but legally permissable. This convo is about pretending to do something illegal, which general society finds morally wrong however legally permissable if faked. I'm not saying punish people for their thoughts or intent, even though I'd like to (that's another topic), It's about faking illegal acts in porn still violating the reason for the law in the first place.

I will not even begin on what kind of nightmare this country would be if we prosecuted on intent alone. Every single actor would be thrown in jail. Every fiction novelist. People just making jokes about laws would be fined.

Reverend Jeremiah's asshole Wrote:It sounds like Tack is Lawful Neutral, willing to go to the Evil side of it (dictatorship) for "the greater good" just so the intent of the law be rigidly enforced. I suppose Tack will be the one translating what the intent of the law will be, of course.

Not everything can be equated to Dungeons and Dragons alignment... you freaking asshole!

@Ash and Sae- Back from the distraction..the intent of the law is not to deal with less hassle, you're going to have to back that claim up with some sound logic before I buy that one.

or to protect the victims.
If the act is already done why would you bother to say it's illegal to show films of it? The victims have already been victimized by that point. That protects no one other than the viewing public. Support it or your point fails Ash.

Oh because pictures and videos of the victim being raped doesn't further victimise the victim...

Perhaps we could agree then that the law should be reworded to prevent intentional or unintentional similarities to illegal activities?

@Ash- Not physically it doesn't. Sure if someone saw you in a kiddie porn and years later if you didn't off yourself someone recognized you .... somehow.. then you might just have flashbacks... Reality is the victims either survive or don't independent of how many times they play recordings of it on Youtube. I'm talking about physical victimization, stop moving the goalposts. What is the purpose of kiddie porn laws?

Pornography should be treated like a fine dessert. Sampled and enjoyed every once and a while ... but not brought out for every meal.

To stop the victims from being victims further

@Ash - In what ways are they victims after the victimization has taken place?

Isn't it obvious? it spreads image of the act that victimized them and opens them to society, there's also a reason why taking photos of people without their authorization is illegal, people want to keep their privacy, private, they might want to move on and it becomes harder when the thing that hurt them is spreading around in society.

That would put so many people into jail, actors, Comic book artists, Hell, even a mime who acts like he is stealing something is doing something that can fall under this quote of yours. I will not agree. He broke the intent of the law by INTENTIONALLY doing something similar to stealing.

All shows would be incredibly boring.
