It's funny! When you show them scientific data that proves being LGBTQ is totally normal they just say "Well, that's just a skewed study done by a Liberal activist scientist". And yet, you ask them to back up their claims and all they really have is their Bible.

There is no one reason the right as a whole dislikes trans people. Each of them have different reasons. I used to be in a relationship with a relatively anti-gay dude who would watch gay porn. I caught him doing it so many times. I don't think for a second he was "all-the-way-gay," but he definitely had some homoerotic tendencies. Anyway, he's a pretty right-wing dude. I think his reasoning had to do with being tough and manly. Obviously, you can be tough and manly and be bi or gay. Guys just don't seem to know that.

Because they're conservative, religious people. LGBT breaks a certain traditional, simplistic mold that people are think others are supposed to fit into. Though part of it is because our puritan roots tell us that sex is evil, and if you're going to have it, then it better be to have kids, otherwise you're just fornicating, and that's evil and wrong.

Transgenderism has a whole different level, because to some it comes off as just having a mental problem. Like if you have a dick, but you believe you're a woman, then it's just because you're a crazy person that needs to be fixed. Not that you're just wired differently, and it's ok to be different, and no one really knows how you feel better than you.

It's funny.  I recently saw a Top 10 Things You can't say if you're a follower of Jesus by a Presbyterian Minister, and it had this one on there.  (The list was surprisingly fairly pleasant)

Then I read another of his top 10 lists--and it hit me.  These people don't worship God, Jesus, or even Paul.  As this minister suggested they worship The Bible.  (It was a top 10 things you can't do if you follow Jesus).  They LOVE the bible.  They don't love God, or Jesus, or any of these other characters within.  They love the book itself, because it promotes their particular brand of bigotry.

Religion emboldens Bigotry.  I'm not sure it creates it, so much as it was created by it, and allowed to continue by it.

Because when you foster and reinforce a culture of divisive differences, you keep the lower classes distracted fighting each other and they focus away from the actual people who are really responsible for their lives being so shitty.
