UK to leave EU
RE: UK to leave EU

Well, they're still gonna have to trade with countries in the EU (probably), which means they're going to have to make trade agreements with EU countries, among other things. Countries that are in Europe and want to trade with EU countries generally still have to accept and work with most of the trade regulations the EU writes, but they don't get a say in them. By putting itself in that position, Britain will most likely have to deal with and even follow some EU laws, but they no longer get a hand in writing them. That's not really a gain of sovereignty, in my opinion.

Indeed... I don't see how loss of influence and increase in isolation is Britain becoming more free...

But you won't be rioting yourself? What makes you think everyone else will be instead?

Just a feeling, I guess. We'll see what happens.

Which is crucial and overlooked by many here. Even if there's some kind of association, Britain just lost it's voice. And that's a biggie, since Britain's voice was pretty loud, starting with Thatcher. Too loud for many of us, since others didn't get the same sweet deals, the UK got. It was cherry picking par excellence.

That's definetely over. Now it's put up and shut up. They got no vote, no veto, no influence on the decisions being made.

The majority of leave voters are baby boomers. They have too much to lose to by rioting, and their dodgy hips will probably start to play up if they did.

And fuck old people who ruin the future for their own children, by the way. That shit pisses me off like almost nothing else.
Verbatim from the mouth of Jesus (retranslated from a retranslation of a copy of a copy):

"Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you too will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. How can you see your brother's head up his ass when your own vision is darkened by your head being even further up your ass? How can you say to your brother, 'Get your head out of your ass,' when all the time your head is up your own ass? You hypocrite! First take your head out of your own ass, and then you will see clearly who has his head up his ass and who doesn't." Matthew 7:1-5 (also Luke 6: 41-42)

I'm tempted to say the same. Old people were not the only ones swinging the votes, by the way. It was all the people falling for populist narratives. Snake oil vendors selling their voodoo at the top of their voices. Actually looking for serious information is less sexy than hoping for easy solutions being on sale.

These are the ones I really blame. Not only in the UK, for that matter. Blokes, it's mostly men, getting their rocks off on presenting themselves as political messiah figures.

And I pretty much agree. My comment was mostly about the age split on the vote itself. It was pretty much old vs young, and it seems to me like it was far too easy for the older/retired voters to ignore the importance of mobility and job access for the people who are literally the future of their country. It's just so fucked up.

Then again, older voters are probably a little easier to dupe with propaganda, too. The politicians really cluster fucked this one.

You actually saw it here. I'm paraphrasing and hope to not get it wrong, but one of the general hopes was that the pensions are now secure. Which probably was a major talking point in the campaign. Obviously a dishonest one, but most people just hear the message and want to believe it. Without checking the facts.

Another one was more money put into NHS (also a hot button with the titanium-hip crowd), a line they started backtracking before the ink was dry on the last few ballots. That's what really gets me. It's fucking infuriating, and I don't even live there.

It's always about cashing in on the disenfranchised and most vulnerable groups. It's adding insult to injury, actually.
