I happen to love the fact that there are 250 alarm clock apps on Google Play, and I can choose the one that has the best GUI for my taste and has the right customizations and behaviors.

Erm...I just did a search for "Alarm Clock" in the App Store and I get hundreds of results. Just because Apple has a native Alarm Clock app installed by default doesn't mean there aren't alternatives: https://fnd.io/#/us/search?mediaType=ios...rm%20clock

Don't get me wrong, there's a market for the walled garden, it just doesn't include me.

The walled garden approach means that there is way less malware in the App Store than in Google Play: https://www.sophos.com/en-us/security-ne...droid.aspx

Also, the permissions system for iOS is far superior to that of Google's. An iOS app by default has basic permissions enabled, and any extra permissions it wants (e.g. camera / microphone access, location services, etc.) it has to request from the user when they use the app. A user can deny these permissions at any time, and even rescind them if they make the wrong choice. An Android app gives a list of permissions it wants when the app is installed, and a user has to accept all of them in order to install the app. I hear that the next Android OS will have a system more like iOS, which is a good move, but it's coming way too late.

The unfortunate reality is, smart phones aren't the same as personal computers, and whilst it would be great to allow people to download apps from Safari and install them, people just don't treat their phones the same as computers just yet, and aren't as concerned about malware as they should be. Phones are perhaps more valuable malware targets than any personal computer system, because they are almost always on and connected to the Internet, they have cameras, and they often have very easy routes to a lot of personal information (emails, banking apps, etc.)

Walled garden approaches suck on PCs, but they make *perfect* sense on phones...for now.

To be fair, I have reasons to hate Microsoft, Sony, Google, Apple, pretty much every tech company you can name. People seem to have cottoned on to this whole "hate Apple" bandwagon. It's not that they don't have good reasons to do so, of course. That's not my point. My point is that most of the reasons people can come up with to hate Apple could likely be easily extended to any other company of the same stature.

Except that's not really true.  You can find OTHER things to hate about those companies, but not the same thing.

Don't believe me?  Make an app for Google play and put it online for your friends to easily download and install.  Now do the thing with the Apple store.
Download computer software to diagnose anything about an iPhone.  Now do the same thing with a Galaxy phone.
Buy a charger from an iPhone 2 generations ago, and then do the same thing with a current-gen Galaxy phone.
Develop an app on Apple to use with other platforms, and then do the same with Windows.

You'll see that at EVERY step of the fucking way, Apple will cock-block you.  They'll prevent you from upgrading, modifying, or othwerise improving the product YOU OWN.  They'll make it hard for a new programmer to get started, and almost impossible for a new program to get distributed.

And they've been that way since the first Mac.  That's where my story with Apple starts, but I'll save that text wall for a little bit later.

RE: Fuck Apple
I want to talk about itunes and how much I hate it.

Before I had an iphone I had a blackberry with a memory card in it for my music and I want to compare the way the both of them would work.  I gave up my blackberry with music just because the connection to my earphones stopped working and it was quite old.

My blackberry memory card would work by me putting the music I'd downloaded into the memory card box on my pc screen.

It worked great, it would tell me when I'd got a duplicate of something on there right away, and I could drag and drop multiple things, that's all, the end.

itunes first of all is no where near that simple, you open it up and there's a thousand different options but it is easy enough to select what you want, sort of.  Just go to iphone, then music.

I've found I can't drag and drop multiple files, god knows why.

It tells you exactly what it's doing and takes ages doing it.  As in you open itunes and it will say "synchronizing, backing up data" so on and so forth, now I don't know if those are part of an important process but I know my blackberry memory card didn't need to do that.

It's actually 50/50 whether or not itunes lets me put music onto my phone at all.  Right now I'm in the process of trying to drag and drop music into my phone one file at a time, it will look as if it's doing something but no actual music will be added.

When you are adding lots of music it doesn't tell you if you are putting a duplicate of a download onto your phone, so you might put something on your phone one week, forget it's there then add it again later and your audio collection becomes a mess which you have to sort out.

Also unlike my blackberry it doesn't allow me to put audio books in along with the rest of the music. It has to go in the audio book collection on my phone which always freezes up.  The file works perfectly on my pc but if I try and even load up the audio book section on my phone it's just a blank white screen.

Additionally sometimes that also happens with itunes music, just a blank white screen comes up and I have to restart my phone.

Oh and some other weird annoying things.

If I plug my iphone into my PC for some reason my PC starts using the iphone's internet connection, no idea why again.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

I personally love Apple products. I'm typing this on an iPad and my mobile phone is an iPhone. Probably overpriced, yes but definitely much better than anything Android.

I find Apple stuff to be over priced and very hard to use, I asked a friend with an Ipud how to copy files from my usb stick and he said I would need to upload them to a website then download to the Ipud. On my android tablet I just pug a usb cable in and cut & paste, simple!

apple vs desktop computers

apple really is only good for video editing and nothing more that being said apple computers do not use
anything fancy other than it's over priced OS and you are getting a computer that is well... not even all that
great internally.

It is understood you only mean those products which are of age of course.

But still, I like my apple bling so I'll be sitting this one out.  Carry on.
