After worrying about it for a bit, I don't think it's a problem. If non-trolls such as you and me go off-topic as happens every so often, it's usually either isolated facetiousness or somehow becomes part of an organic (non-disruptive) sub-conversation, and imho those cases don't fall under this rule.

The 'on purpose' part was the entire reason for changing the rule, ya dingbat.
Topics evolving is part of the forum. We're not worried about naturally evolving threads.

It's not good to have it more explicit. Adding in qualifiers like "on purpose" makes the rule impossible to enforce.

To be clear everyone: the entire purpose of changing this rule is to more effectively deal with actual trolls. The staff is not interested in changing anything for people who are clearly not trolling. If you post some non sequitur in a thread, have no fear that you're going to get sanctioned. That shit happens all the time.
