RE: Help Convince Me Not To
I am really adverse to buying gadgets and when I do I try to keep them going for at least 10 years. But I have a laptop and a tablet. I only use the tablet for travelling, say on the bus, and for playing music. But I also used the GPS and map the other day which was extremely useful. I justified the purchase because it allows me to learn German and to read text books using the Kindle app which are too large to read as a hard copy on a bus and contains lots of diagrams that won't display properly on a normal Kindle. But it took me years to reach the point where I could justify buying one.

It's a Unixy thingy for systems using the graphics system X Window. If you ssh from one Unix machine to another, you can allow the program you run remotely to send graphics commands to your local system (in Linux, it's simply the command line option ssh -X), and that allows you to use programs with a graphical user interface via SSH. It's horribly slow if you don't have a perfect internet connection, and there have always been compatibility issues for me, but it worked for emergencies.
The fool hath said in his heart, There is a God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

It's Prime Day tomorrow. I'll check and see if they have any deals. I already ordered the keyboard from Google...
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

So this thread was just to make you feel better about the decision you were going to make anyway.
