I think you're probably right ... for some reason I really like SuSE (I also loved the now discontinued Evil Entity Linux). Maybe I should try it with Gnome.

Woohoo! Alive? Flash Gordon's alive!
Nothing wrong with it at all, it looks like the KVM (I use a Compaq server room type KVM) was upsetting it, probably the cable because it was fine some time back on another cable.

I am trying out Mint now. Do I really have to boot to the Live desktop before I can start the install?

Live CD's are OK but the "install to HD" is not always obvious in my experience.

Well I've tried to go to a menu from the cd-boot, but all I could do was boot the cd, boot the cd in safe mode, or boot from hard-disc. No install to HD option. That annoys me, because booting the live cd takes over half an hour to come up on this computer.

If that were the case I'd still be working with Mandriva.

Maybe an option at boot?

OK ... quick answer needed.
I have a really crap PC that I'm getting rid of and I want to install Linux on it, Linux with some kind of GUI (obviously not KDE). I've tried DSL (Damn Small Linux) with no success (TBH I couldn't understand how to install the fucking thing).
So I want a really easy (old?) version of Linux that will install happily on a PIII/450 with 128Mb memory. I'm about to try Puppy Linux.
Any ideas appreciated but it (the PC) is going in about 2 hours.

Ubuntu? Where from ... I've looked on the Ubuntu page and can't see anything. Worth bearing in mind those CPU's are much more powerful than a PIII though.

I just found that Asus uses a version of Xandros.
Then I would try TinyMe. I used it on my 5 year old Laptop and was really fast.
