Given the whole story it is rather controversial, I would say. First the convenient fact of Assange getting the Clinton emails at the right moment without getting any information about the Trump camp by his own admission. International Russian government media such as RT beating the constant war drum for Trump.

It at least leaves a sour aftertaste and some questions with this added admission. But everyone makes their own bed, I guess. And the Americans just made theirs.

I rather view it as a foreign leader directly influencing the American presidential elections. It's the impression I get and I say that very cautiously since I don't want to put on my tinfoil hat. Can't even say I'm outraged over that possibility. If the American political system is that easily influenced, by all means, go for it.

Seems a bit farfetched to me. Saying that some of Trumps camp might have influenced Russian media outlets is plausible. Saying a foreign leader directly influencing the American presidential elections? I'm confused as to what way we're suggesting he'd do this.

It's a series of events actually making for a pretty good story.

Assange suddenly getting access to emails from the Clinton camp. Nothing on Trump, by his own admission "can't publish what we don't have". At the same time allegations - and that's where I am cautious as long as it isn't proven - that Russians were behind the hacked servers.

Now a hígh ranking Russian official boasting over their great contacts with the Trump campaign.

Actually I forgot the most interesting bit in the chain of events above. Trump openly asking the Russians to hack Clinton's servers. I'm no longer sure how that fits into the timeline, but I believe it was shortly before Assange got his package.
