But that is not getting rid of them.

I wasn't trying to imply that as much as I was trying to point out that your generalization was a bit broad. I have no problem with regulating them; history shows that to be a necessity for a healthy society.

And tbh I'd prefer the Anthill Treatment for offenders ... but capital punishment is another discussion altogether. Smile

I think people who scream corporations are evil are just the left wing version of people screaming the government is evil. Both of them are massive entities filled with millions of people who are both good and evil but mostly just normal people trying to live therr lives. To simplify something like that to say 'corporations are evil' is a sign of a simple mind.

100% this.

Like I said I work for one of the world's largest companies (PepsiCo or PBV), or rather its distributor in the UK/Ireland. Whilst obviously our performance is driven by the bottom line and a profit to shareholders, actually the company does an awful lot for charity and local communities, not to mention supporting a vast array of local businesses through our supply chain throughout the world.

Legislation in the UK means we are culpable for corrupt/nefarious activities of businesses who we deal with directly and indirectly in our supply chain regardless of where they are in the world (Bribery act 2010), meaning a policy of imposing our own anti-corruption and good working ethics on our entire chain. If any one of our supplies, or indeed their supplier, does something that would get us prosecuted in the UK, then We don't deal with them, meaning we have uniformity as much as possibly of best business practice throughout. Not perfect of course, but certainly stepping in the right direction.

We also do an awful lot of green issues as obviously we use a lot of raw resources, but I don't want to get into everything. Needless to say the description of our company as somehow 'evil' is way wide of the mark, at least in my experience.

More sensible than self hating americans who thinks everything wrong with the world is their country. EU is doing a terrific job, and NATO is innocent. They can do no wrong, its only Bush in the white house who did so it must mean USA is whats wrong with everything... Thats usually the new left's policy. Its the western world who's at fault not corporates or bankers who invest and influence the world globally.

But the worship of state is called Statheism. Which is likely what some people do. An old video ridiculing it.

It really is subjective to how you run a corporation. Would you run it as a device of human development or will you run it as a profit source without accountability for social problems? You can't be very profitable if your customer base and enployees are unhappy.

In itself they're neutral. They do what every business does, providing services and products. But, same as with governments, checks and balances are in order. Every force running totally unchecked sooner or later turns into something dangerous. It's only human to seek advantages where they're on offer. That's totally OK as long as there are certain rules to be followed. The absence of any rules on the other hand is a sure recipe for disaster.

I worked for a corporation that most don't like. Maybe I'm just naughty.

If I ever start a corporation, I'm going to base it in my secret lair (either an extinct volcano or the North Pole, haven't decided yet), shave my head, wear a monocle, and conduct all business 'negotiations' while petting a white cat. Mwa ha ha.
