Sure some of you remember the [adult_swim] show Metalocalypse? Not a terribly funny cartoon but the concept alone was enough to keep me coming back to it. Plus the music was rad and improved as the show went on. Fantastic guitar work, as well as the drumming talents of Testament's Gene Hoglan. Dethklok released three albums and I enjoyed all of them, the first two suffer from their status as a parody, the vocals aren't great but the music is still there so...





By the last album, the music had really come into its own, had dropped a good deal of its 'parody' aspects, vocals are actually pretty good this time, some really interesting guitar stuff.

My favorite thing about Metalocalypse was that they were always accidentally killing their fans, and anyone who wanted to go see their concerts had to sign a waiver first.

Turns out the guy behind the show is working on another album titled Galaktikon 2, which will apparantly just be more Dethklok under a different name. Releasing some time next year.

Some interesting Metal from Asia

It's interesting to have Black/Dark Metal from a not culturally Christian or generally Abrahamic place, with a very different kind of symbolism than the usual European occult/satanic theme.
Saw these guys open for Arch Enemy years ago, very impressive. They are from Taiwan and a lot of the songs are inspired by historical and political upheavals around Taiwan, Japan and China
