Rock Concert etiquette?
February 18, 2017 at 10:58 am
So, my entire life, I think I've been to one musical concert. It was some little country music thing when I was like 10, in Branson with my grandfather. So, I, unfortunately don't have too terribly much experience here.
But now, Green Day is touring, they're going to be in Tulsa on March 7 and I have two tickets. Anyone got any suggestions or tips or anything I should know? This is a first time experience for me and I want to be able to enjoy it as much as possible without some huge disaster happening.

It's important to remember that everyone is there to have a good time. Common courtesy is a must assuming a large crowd for Green Day. Every concert will produce a small handful of idiots that started drinking at noon for an 8pm show. In my experience, it's the drunk's friends that have their show ruined as they tend to them.
Be patient in concession and bathroom lines. The merchandise tables don't generally have formal lines and is a bit of a mob. If you're okay missing a song or two, this is the time to go.
After the show I always sit and relax for 15 minutes or so, rather than jump in the cattle drive.
Expect to stand most of the concert, depending on where your seat is. If someone behind you registers a complaint they are likely inexperienced too. I simply explain that I would like to sit too, but can't see the show because of those in front of me are standing. If that doesn't work, ignore them.
Don't get upset if someone near you is belting out the lyrics at the top of their lungs. It's part of the experience and the way they choose to enjoy the show. Hell, join in. On that note, the show is also in the crowd. I like seeing people having a good time and rocking out. Those that stand statuesque with arms folded intently staring at the stage have always been a mystery to me.

Don't wear underpants.
What the hell do I know. I haven't seen one in 40 years. I think the last was Boston or Styx. Not sure, those days were kind of blurry.

I've been to see green day but that was in the early 2000s before people just took selfies and posed at rock concerts.
When I was there the etiquette was if you're going to puke, push whoever is in front of you out of the way first, they'll understand when they turn around and see the situation.
If you're really heavy don't crowd surf, and try not to stomp on too many people's feet when you jump up and down.
I wasn't a very fat teenager and I just remember flying over lots and lots of people untIl I reached the front and security escorted me to the side and back into the crowd again.
Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.
Impersonation is treason.

Well, Lee and I have to work that day. We're getting off a couple of hours early to make sure we're able to get ready and stuff, but I don't think getting drunk at 12 will happen. Hell, the earliest I would be able to drink looks to be about 4.
Anyway, I'm not much of a drinker anyway. I mean, I'll drink and I can get drunk, but I don't really drink beer and the hard liquor I actually WILL drink isn't the kind of stuff they serve there (is it?).

As a child I attended my only ever rock concert, a Pat Boone concert with the family.
I'm assuming times have changed and my recollections of etiquette from that would not be transferrable to a contemporary Green Day concert.

It kind of depends on where your tickets are at. Seeing the show on the general admission floor is quite a bit different of an experience than assigned seats in the balcony.

Do not, I repeat NOT, viddy the concert on your mobile phone. When the missus and I went to a Cornerstone Roots concert year before last, I never saw so many fucking blue lights in me life. Hundreds and hundreds of people AT a concert, watching it through their tiny phone screens. It's stupid, gauche, and disrespectful to the band.

I've been to many rock gigs and also an electronica gig.
I just go to the very front where the speakers are, bob my head, observe my brother chatting to the other rockers about the band and similar bands they like while I just focus on the music and watch the band and bob my head and then I go home feeling almost deaf.
I'm not social about it.
By the way Tara... I like you. I'm glad you're back. I like you. I don't think we've ever met. Feel free to PM me immediately. Or not. Up to you. I'm in a fun loving mood, lol.

Bring ear plugs and use them. Hearing damage is not a joke.
