President Donald Trump was roundly mocked yesterday for the historical illiteracy evident in his Andrew Jackson quotes. Now Golf Digest is revisiting an earlier scandal involving Trump’s ignorance of the Civil War.

“Many great American soldiers, both of the North and South, died at this spot,” reads the inscription a faux historical marker on the course of the Trump National Golf Club, according to the New York Times. “The casualties were so great that the water would turn red and thus became known as ‘The River of Blood.’ ”

In 1832, Andrew Jackson implemented a new tariff on goods. South Carolina, led by Andrew Jackson's former vice president and ardent states' right supporter John C. Calhoun, claimed that it could nullify the order from the federal government and not implement it. Jackson, a staunch proponent of the central government, made it very clear that he would use military might to force South Carolina to accept the tariff if they did not do it peacefully. It was one the more public displays of infighting between states and the central government before the Civil War.

Remember Andrew Jackson? He's on money. He's so cool and kind of hot in that, like, old dude who probs has syphilis way. He was super mad at the whole Civil War thing. He was, like, so friggin mad that he died 20 years before the Civil War because his brain, like, time-warp exploded from anger and it's like woah, chill dude, but yeah he totally died.

Anyways, Jackson was super pissed and stuff. Like, I mean, he owned a lot of slaves and I think killed some Native American people, but that was OK to do back then, because old-times people were stupid and murdery or something. But I feel like if Jackson was around during Lincoln times, he could of stopped the war. He'd be like, "Hey I'm Andrew Jackson!" and everyone would be like "Aaah a zombie!"
