Global Warming
July 20, 2011 at 2:54 pm
I had a thought as I was walking through the unbearable furnace that is the outdoors right now in Kentucky.
Around January, there's a snowstorm somewhere in America. It'll probably happen again this year. When it does, on cue, talking head chuckle about suddenly not hearing from those who are warning us about global warming, with plenty of footage from the area affected. I'm predicting we'll see that again this coming winter. The word "average" is lost on them, I guess.
I know two wrongs don't make a right, but I can't resist. I'm not hearing much from the climate deniers this week.

My father in-law is a conservative who gets all of his information from Fox News, so whenever the subject of freaky weather comes up I mention global warming. He's started giving me looks like, "holy shit, this might actually be real."

It has been damn hot in the bluegrass hasn't it? Some good rains this last week though.

It's too bad that the general standard of education is so low that majority of people have a difficult time grasping the concept of trends and statistical significance.

Sadly, anecdotal evidence weighs much more heavily with people than it should.

Weather over here around California has been throwing the ENSO pattern for a loop. Based on the climate trends over time compared to the extremely schizophrenic sudden Alaskan front pushing from the north, I can't tell if we're in El Nino or La Nina anymore.
Maybe one of our members with better expertise in climate modeling can help me out in reading the NOAA charts.

Whenever I think about climate change stupidity I am reminded of two years ago when we had an unusually large amount of snow, the guys at Fox News' morning program put Al Gore's book in the snow and said, "Where's your global warming now?" The goddamn idiots didn't realize that the heavy snow is actually more proof of global warming. Too many dumbasses think that global warming just means it's going to be hot all of the time when it actually means more extreme weather in winter and summer.

Lucky you, weather here in the UK is colder than average for this time of year, mind you, the United Kingdom has some unpredictable weather systems, you only have to look back at the past to see what I mean:

I heard reports from Warwickshire that a tornado nearly formed. Did you know the UK experiences more tornadoes (obviously less destructive than their US counterparts) than any other European country, excluding waterspouts?

If thermal heline circulation hypothesis is correct, UK and all Northsea and Baltic countriesare set to turn into arctic tundra should global warming take hold in much of the rest of the earth.

Doesn't the deep ocean take on the order of centuries to react to such?
