You could probably whittle that down to just his sacrifice and still be meaningfully christian. God needn't be the creator - or even be, there needn't be any divine or natural teleology to evolutionary biology, and it might not be an issue of love...but if the death of one man can provide atonement for another...you're still getting the only completely non-negotiable article of faith in christian dogma. For demonstration..imagine that all of the rest is true..but that vicarious redemption isn't. Is it still christian?
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

What sacrifice, a bad weekend then eternal bliss.
Better than a weekend with good luck at a casino resort. (October 13, 2017 at 10:54 am)Neo-Scholastic Wrote: To the OP: I've always been curious to know your conversion story, chad. Looking forward to reading this. ❤
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

@Whateverist
I don't see why not. A person doesn't have to maintain that magic book is something it's not to be a christian. Historically, a great many christians never had access to a bible and couldn't have read it if they did. Paul, to hear the story told, had never read the NT. He had a vision and in that moment became a christian. Ultimately christianity is not (and has never been) the belief that the bible is true...and I, for one, see no reason to saddle ones earnestly held beliefs with a duplicitous and meandering rationalization over a book of fairy tales.

Aww, poor baby. It's a wonder he finds time to be such a dick through all that grief.
