It's not like God would have forgotten the recipe.
 The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

Sure he did.  They just weren't married.  And to avoid getting stoned, they probably said GOD DID IT.  Here 2000 years later we have a whole religion because of it.
