It takes motive/motivation and a plan. I don't think courage or cowardice are judgements we can make unless we are making the attempt.
Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.

She's of the opinion that cowards do it but I disagreed with her because for me I think it takes a hell lot of courage to do it. Though some people think it's a act of cowardice and they all have different reasoning.
What's your take? And why?
It depends, if you push a kid out from in front of a bus and you get killed that is an act of suicide. If you are ending your own terminal illness that too is an act of suicide. I don't think those acts are cowardice.
BUT if you are killing yourself to avoid prosecution raping and murdering a kid, or you commit suicide after murdering your spouse, then no. I do think those acts are cowardice.
But I think what you are talking about is when you are fit, and not under any of those conditions above. I would say if you do it, you still have some underlying mental health issue in any case. It certainly is your own life, even in that case too. So I wouldn't pass judgment calls either way.

Is it courage or cowardice to remain in a situation that makes you so miserable, that you want to die? Honestly someone who has that kind of problem should be helped, or pitied, regardless.
I think the issue is that a lot of the time, when people call suicide cowardly, they are saying that it makes you a bad person. Going by the technical definition, being a coward doesn't necessarily make one a bad person, but that's how most people take it, so I agree that it's not helpful to use that term when talking to suicidal people.

I guess it really depends on the individual context, and how able someone is to just pack up and leave whatever is causing them grief. In any case, obviously these people need help, and calling them cowards isn't going to.

I wouldn't call it brave, but I definitely wouldn't call it cowardly, since most people fear of dying.

I used to fear dying, before an experience I had many years ago. Now I don't. My only concern is for the people who will find me, and others I leave behind. But the actual act of dying, to me, is nothing.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

I think it could be both at the same time, even though by definition cowardice is a lack of courage.
A definition of courage is the ability to do something that frightens you. Killing yourself probably does frighten most people, even if you're doing it to avoid something that frightens you even more you'd still be afraid of doing it. So as a technicality you could say suicide involves courage.
Cowardice is someone who is lacking the courage to endure unpleasant things. So just using technical definitions I think you could do both. You can have the ability to do something that frightens you in order to escape something unpleasant things you feel you can't endure.
Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.
Impersonation is treason.

Suicide is a very complicated issue, and it's certainly not black and white.
Does it take courage or is is cowardice to end your life if you're dying and suffering? If there's no hope?
Personally, I have a pact with a couple of colleagues that if I ever end up that way, they'll end my life for me.

To me, it's mental crackdown; a tantrum that kills the suicidal person.
See this video; the guy killed himself by sitting himself to fire; you can hear him scream when the flames go up in complete terror:
PLEASE DON'T WATCH UNLESS YOU'RE 18+
? I can't say he has guts. I cannot also say that he's a coward for screaming from the pain of burns. But I can definitely say he wasn't thinking right at that moment. I can make a guess or two about him being an attention whore for streaming it of facebook -guessing; not sure-. He was in mental pain for sure.
So without a context; we got nothing to judge.
