A friend in Swaziland suggested "hyporeligious" as an alternative. Avoids the "A" word and confuses people at the same time. A win-win for people with a preference.

Nah, I don't like that at all.  'Hypo' means 'beneath'.  'Beneath religious' doesn't really describe me.

That's one meaning, but "less than" is also a meaning.

But even with that definition, it implies some aspect of religiousity.  'Less than normally religious' could only be taken to mean that I am somewhat religious, just less religious than normal.
