10 things that you did not know about immigrants.

RE: 10 things that you did not know about immigrants.
I’m not an immigrant. I was born in the US and grew up here for the most part. Still, I have been told to “go back” to my country more times than I care to count, and not just by white people. Other minorities love to send us bad hombres back to our country, too.

I lived in Mexico for about 4 year as a teen. Then I realized. I’m not welcome here because I’m Mexican, and I’m not welcome there because I’m American. Well everyone can suck it because I love both my countries and I love to travel back and forth. Go back to my country? With pleasure, back and forth.

I don't care whether they are fleeing a despotic leader. I say we send immigrants back to America!

Blame me. I reported it. I'm a petty bastard like that.

What about all the racism against immigrants?

Not saying it doesn't exist, just saying that hasn't been the experience my family and I have had when we moved to America.

I'm assuming location and the type of people we were around played a huge role. We moved to a medium sized city in Ohio, not a border town where there may be tension of that type. Also, we lived in middle class suburbia, surrounded by decent, normal people - not uneducated shady people.

Yes, we are Caucasian, perhaps that played a big role as well. Though my parents had and still do have very heavy accents, and everyone who knows us knows we are South American.

I find it one of those well duh moments when people say immigrants have lower crime rates because anyone that knows their being somewhere could easily change if they are bad are going to try to stay out of trouble. Either they are illegal and don't want to get deported or they are legal and they came here for a legit reason and won't risk getting sent back.

My husband's grandfather (We'll call husband VIII, his dad VII, grandfather VI, great grandfather V) is from Peru and VI had to flee from there when V tried to overthrow the government and failed. Needless to say the rest of V's family needed to vacate the country regardless of the fact that they weren't part of it and VI was only a teenager. After a rocky path VI became a citizen and a professor at a college, VII was career military going to war for America, and VIII is now a paramedic saving lives. Talk about one immigrant creating a lot of good for America.

Of course, a lot of right-wing fundies in "O-High-o".   I find your acceptance by "the establishment" to be unremarkable.

What?

Not all immigrants are treated equal.  Thousands (probably, more) scientific studies prove this.  Looking at your pic for the last 3 or so months (and, your previous one), I would have never guessed that you were unAmerican (or, even, the first generation daughter of immigrants.)
