RE: Why do people believe that Beowulf is fiction?

How many books do you read, that have a disclaimer that it is fiction or non-fiction?
I would also disagree, if you are implying that fiction or non-fiction; is to be determined by the contents, and whether or not you find them plausible. You might be skeptical about the moon landing or believe that Russia had the NRA build a death ray for $2,500, however your subjective opinion doesn't determine the objective truth.

You mean "God didn't write it and pass it along to Jesus to give to us in a non-oral format so that there wouldn't be any danger of miscommunication of the literal Word of God." Right?

I believe mythologies as far they point to eternal truths....and when they do, I believe in the particular instances as well depending on how well mixed it is with proving the Eternal Wisdom.

I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. That's a good point, but usually when the dragons, sea serpents, and/or talking animals show up, I can conclude that it's at least partially fictional.

Yeah...but if it has even more dragons and talking animals..that must mean it;s even truthier, right?

Really, I've seen dragons and sea serpents on the discovery channel and in science books. I've also heard animals that can talk such as parrots, or through sign language such as Gorillas.
Do you dismiss a priori these things that I have seen as fiction? I suppose that some people do dismiss the moon landing and the holocaust; from what I gather it was mostly based on incredulity. Do you agree with them as well (or I assume at least justify their method)?
