The "Slaughter of the Innocents" bullshit is typical of the Heroic Myth Archetype laid out by Rank and Raglan.  One of the more common traits is that a king tries to kill them at birth in order to prevent fulfillment of some prophecy.  "Jesus" manages to hit 18 of the 23 Rank-Raglan traits which puts him pretty high up on the Mythic Bullshit chart.

Not unique.  Not real.  Not coming back.  Wasn't here the first time.

RE: Massacre of the Innocents
It's an event that probably/certainly didn't happen, but that's not uncommon for the bible. Maybe it was never intended to be taken as real.

It has had no effect on me whatsoever, as far as I'm aware.

RE: Massacre of the Innocents
Romulus ( And Remus ) myth.

Quote: The Vestal was ravished, and having given birth to twin sons, named Mars as the father of her doubtful offspring, whether actually so believing, or because it seemed less wrong if a god [p. 19]were the author of her fault. [3] But neither gods nor men protected the mother herself or her babes from the king's cruelty; the priestess he ordered to be manacled and cast into prison, the children to be committed to the river. [4] It happened by singular good fortune that the Tiber having spread beyond its banks into stagnant pools afforded nowhere any access to the regular channel of the river, and the men who brought the twins were led to hope that being infants they might be drowned, no matter how sluggish the stream

Titus Livius, History of Rome   Book 1:4

The Perseus Myth

Quote:Perseus was the son of Zeus and Danaë, the daughter of Acrisius, King of Argos. Disappointed by his lack of luck in having a son, Acrisius consulted the oracle at Delphi, who warned him that he would one day be killed by his daughter's son. In order to keep Danaë childless, Acrisius imprisoned her in a bronze chamber, open to the sky, in the courtyard of his palace:[5] This mytheme is also connected to Ares, Oenopion, Eurystheus, and others. Zeus came to her in the form of a shower of gold, and impregnated her.[6] Soon after, their child was born; Perseus—"Perseus Eurymedon,[7] for his mother gave him this name as well" (Apollonius of Rhodes, Argonautica IV).

Fearful for his future, but unwilling to provoke the wrath of the gods by killing the offspring of Zeus and his daughter, Acrisius cast the two into the sea in a wooden chest.

The Jason Myth

Quote:Pelias (Aeson's half-brother) was power-hungry and sought to gain dominion over all of Thessaly. Pelias was the progeny of a union between their shared mother, Tyro ("high born Tyro"), the daughter of Salmoneus, and the sea god Poseidon. In a bitter feud, he overthrew Aeson (the rightful king), killing all the descendants of Aeson that he could. He spared his half-brother for unknown reasons. Aeson's wife Alcimede I had a newborn son named Jason whom she saved from Pelias by having female attendants cluster around the infant and cry as if he were still-born. Fearing that Pelias would eventually notice and kill her son, Alcimede sent him away to be reared by the centaur Chiron,[12]; she claimed that she had been having an affair with him all along. Pelias, fearing that his ill-gotten kingship might be challenged, consulted an oracle, who warned him to beware of a man wearing only one sandal.

The Sargon Myth

Quote:Sargon, the mighty king, king of Agade, am I.
My mother was a changeling, my father I knew not.
The brother(s) of my father loved the hills.
My city is Azupiranu, which is situated on the banks of the Euphrates.
My changeling mother conceived me, in secret she bore me.
She set me in a basket of rushes, with bitumen she sealed
    My lid.
She cast me into the river which rose not (over) me,
The river bore me up and carried me to Akki, the
    drawer of water.
Akki, the drawer of water lifted me out as he dipped his
    e[w]er.
Akki, the drawer of water, [took me] as his son
    (and) reared me.

The Moses Myth

Quote:Now a man of the tribe of Levi married a Levite woman, 2 and she became pregnant and gave birth to a son. When she saw that he was a fine child, she hid him for three months. 3 But when she could hide him no longer, she got a papyrus basket[a] for him and coated it with tar and pitch. Then she placed the child in it and put it among the reeds along the bank of the Nile. 4 His sister stood at a distance to see what would happen to him.

5 Then Pharaoh’s daughter went down to the Nile to bathe, and her attendants were walking along the riverbank. She saw the basket among the reeds and sent her female slave to get it. 6 She opened it and saw the baby.

Odysseus Birth Myth

Quote:Relatively little is given of Odysseus' background other than that according to Pseudo-Apollodorus, his paternal grandfather or step-grandfather is Arcesius, son of Cephalus and grandson of Aeolus, while his maternal grandfather is the thief Autolycus, son of Hermes[15] and Chione. Hence, Odysseus was the great-grandson of the Olympian god Hermes.

The Oedipus Myth

Quote:In the most well-known version of the myth, Oedipus was born to King Laius and Queen Jocasta. Laius wished to thwart a prophecy, so he left Oedipus to die on a mountainside. However, the baby was found by shepherds and raised by King Polybus and Queen Merope as their own.

The Jesus Myth

Quote:12 And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.
13 And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.
14 When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt:
15 And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.
16 Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men.

Frankly, there was nothing special about being born from the union of a god/goddess and mortal.  All heroes were expected to do it.

Were not all powerful and if your going to pull the "he allows it because he knows better argument" it would not work if a human said it why would it work for a god?

The word innocent as applied to those male children would mean they did not deserve to die at the command of man, especially one that was as crazy and insecure as Herod. God punishes sin and man commits the sin as Herod did with those children.

GC
So, children deserve to die at the command of god/goddess.
I just wonder, can command of god be used as a criminal defense?

No because gods and goddess do not exist, only the God of creation, the God who gave us his word. This is His domain, his creation to do with as He sees right.
Not in this day and time and I doubt in anytime.

Star or planet, and you seem unable to make your mind up, it matters not a whit. Neither can indicate a particular stable/house/city/continent.

Learn 3D spatial reasoning FFS. If the three dumbasses simply walked around to the other side of the barn/city/whatever, the star/planet would still be on the horizon while the barn was now behind them.

The star (planet) was over the city because God knew exactly where they would be when the planet stopped. You're trying to place things in a light that did not exist, they were where they were and no other place, these people knew more about the movement of the stars than most people today do. You call them dummies yet they were at the top of the knowledge of the day.

I've never personally killed a child, or ordered someone else to do so. Now maybe I'm not running around the world trying to adopt as many children as I can, but I'm a limited Human with his own life to live. I'm still better than your god, though.

A simple answer will do here, no you are not. If you live in the United States you could have called your senator's office and gave your opinion.

If only I were omnipotent, I would end war and starvation.

It takes more than an omnipotent mind to understand what has to happen to complete a plan that will serve humanity best. Power corrupts and complete power corrupts completely. Without the other things that God is you might just destroy the world for pleasure, something God wouldn't do because of the love He has for mankind. War and starvation are mans doing and it is us who should bring a halt to it all, but some believe it's better to waste money on trying to go to Mars than to feed those poor children who are starving because the money to feed them was thrown into space, a place that does them no good and a place man may never get to.

Hey that's just what man has done, get real and quit denying what is man's fault. We have caused the problem and it should be up to us to fix it. You might think on this, Jesus told His disciples that the poor would always be with us, might be because He knew human nature oh so well.

What I said applies to you also, there is a good response to this story through science and yet no one here has the guts to tke a look and why because they are scared to death that it might just make sense and boy then what.
