This is an ignorant answer. Humans literally from an evolutionary standpoint have always competed for resources. But there is a huge difference between living under an oppressive state, and living in an open state. Now, I fucking take Trumps vile rhetoric personally. He has vilified my NON VIOLENT Hispanic neighbors, and he has attacked the press, and I had interned and worked in media myself.

Getting along would be wonderful. But no, the tug of war politically, should pull towards more open societies, not oppressive states. I don't like human tribalism either, but no, bending over to a dictator is not how you foster peace.

I am 51, I am old enough to remember the cold war, and fear of a global nuclear war. Putin is a product of Stalin's KGB, Stalin murdered millions of his own. Putin even today, murders political rivals and reporters. 

I think you need to understand the difference between the general population, and the powers that control that population. I won't vilify every individual whom lives in Russia, but Putin is still a dictator, and his population does not have the range of political and press freedom we do in the west. Trump insulted Merkel whom lived under the oppression of the former Soviet Union.

If you expect me to ignore bullies, and authoritarian states forget it.

Because politics are about policy and lawmaking. Those things have a direct affect on global affairs and domestic affairs. And right now Putin is trying to reconstruct and go back to KGB policy and expansion. And Trump whom I directly live under locally here in America, is pissing off our European leaders and allies, and shitting on our intel. And that is on top of Trump pandering to racist bigots. I think it would be unwise for Europe's population to ignore either Putin or Trump. Both are vile selfish narcissistic sociopaths and bullies.

I've met a lot of Russians, and I've never met a Russian I didn't like. But Putin is a dictator who would love to take more territory if he thinks he can get away with it. He controls the news and the average Russian doesn't know much more than he wants them to know. Russians in the USA are often shocked at how mislead they were by Putin's media. Putin wants NATO and the EU to dissolve and for the USA to lose its global influence. Putin supports Trump and Brexit because those things are steps to getting other things he wants. Like Finland.

I have a bit of an interest in Russia, considering that monitoring its activities, particularly in the Sea of Japan and Afghanistan, was the major focus of my short military career.

I don't get what all the fuss is about. Sure, Trump cozying up to Putin is stupid and looks suspicious, but it's not a violation of any law. I don't think anyone will ever prove Trump colluded with the Russians, so at the end of the day, we have a foreign power who meddled in our elections, and Trump was the lucky benefactor of such meddling. Not a particularly good thing to have happen, but it doesn't in any way implicate Trump.
