Objective Morality?

Quote:I don't approve of their sin, but it doesn't mean I hate them. Hmmm....I don't approve of them shoving their dicks up some other guys asshole....but I don't consider it a "sin." "Sin" is for bible-thumping fools. (September 21, 2011 at 10:00 pm)Minimalist Wrote:Quote:I don't approve of their sin, but it doesn't mean I hate them. Good point Min. What is sin? It doesn't even have to do with religion anymore. It's all who you talk to. It is your god given conscience which tells you what that standard is. That people can compromise, or sear their own consciences is a given. What a meaningless statement. Again I ask, where is this "Absolute Morality? Lots of people are quite happy to murder and pillage in the name of your god, who I might add is rather partial to genocide according to your bible. Morality exists only within people, nowhere else. It is thus utterly, utterly subjective. And you have yet to show otherwise. Quote:The change in the OT law was due to the change of priesthood from levitical, which was for Israel, to Melchizedek, an eternal priesthood. When the priesthood changed the cermonial and sacrificial laws were made obsolete because Jesus fulfilled all of those things. This doesn't mean none of the laws from the OT are valid, just the ones that apply specifically to the observance of jewish law as it applies to the levitical priesthood. As far as a law against homosexuality, that is in the NT as well. As to christians not having to follow the OT. "Do not think that I [Jesus] have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke or a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. (Matthew 5:17-18) Or doesn't that count either? P.s that bit was from a CHRISTIAN website http://www.answering-christianity.com/ot.htm If you're not supposed to ride faster than your guardian angel can fly then mine had better get a bloody SR-71. Answering-christianity is a website launched by Muslims to counter the Answering-Islam site some Christians put up.

I find that to be quite an interesting statement." So they must be mis-representing themselves. An the bit I quoted is in the bible. No, that isn't a Christian website, and not only that but it appears to be deliberately misleading. I find it hard to believe that having studied Christianity at length they wouldn't have such elementry knowledge about the New Covenant..
The reason that some Old Testament laws, such as the cermonial law, are not practiced today is because when Christ came there was a change of priesthoods, from the levitical to melchizedek. Christ, being the all-sufficient sacrifice, fulfilled the requirements of the law, which was given only to Israel for that time and place. Christians still follow the basic moral law of the OT, but those laws relating to the propitiation of sin and governance of Israel have been fulfilled in Christ and are no longer relevent.
