Question about permanent death

Are there atheists here who believe that there is some sort of afterlife? I personally still believe that there is something in afterlife, even if I dislike the idea.

There's no concrete evidence of any sort of afterlife. As much as I would like to believe that I would be reunited with my loved ones upon my own death, I have to accept the fact that there isn't such a place. And I'm okay with that.

I have been informed several times that as an atheist I am constrained by solipsism.  That means that upon my death the world will cease to exist.  Ergo, there is nothing after life.

Which is perfectly true if you take the personal viewpoint.

Indeed, there is not. That being the case, I default to believe my conscious existence will end with the death of my body.

I'm far from sure of that though.

I don't have the slightest doubt that man-made religions like the ludicrous Abrahamic faiths are fantasy but I can think of many other possibilities I cannot dismiss so easily:

1. We may be living in a simulation. We may all be characters in a cosmic video game. I used to look at the existence of the fucking idiotic leaf blower as evidence of that but now I have even better evidence: Donald Trump is the President of the United States. The game master got bored and decided to really shake things up.

2. The age and expanse of the universe virtually guarantee the existence of beings so advanced beyond us, we could not distinguish them from God. Their only limitations would be those imposed by the laws of physics. If they were so inclined and the laws of physics allowed them to do so, they could intervene on the death of each of us and provide us with an afterlife.

3. Thought may be a primal force in the universe. I never would have considered this before joining this forum (and I'm still very skeptical of it) but some members here (bennyboy? comes to mind) have forced me to consider it.

There are plenty that think that, yeah. I don't think many atheists who have joined here believe it though.

My problem with it isn't just one of evidence, but of coherence. What does it even mean, in non-fantasy terms? What is it that is supposed to survive, and how does it make any sense for it to become separate from the physical body?

As there is no evidence for it, I don't believe in any sort of afterlife. For me personally, having an "afterlife" just cheapens the point of a "before" life. You can do all this crazy shit for like 80-100 years [if you're lucky], then repent on your death bed and go to heaven for ETERNITY? Yeah, fuck that.

I'd rather just enjoy my limited time now thank you.
