What a stupid song

Meh, it's a song about a woman saying no over and over again, a man putting something in her drink and not letting her leave, and her still saying no.

I'm okay with radio listeners saying they'd like to hear Christmas music but the messaging in that one has had it's day.

Yeah, I think I’m with Steel on this one. My first instinct was to roll my eyes, but I’ve never actually read the full lyrics until just now, and frankly, it’s...ew.  She even says blatantly in one line, “you’re being very pushy”, and in another, “the answer is no.”

So let's recap shall we 

1. This song was not banned 

2. One side says it's innocent or even feminist 

3. The other side finds it creepy and kind of cringy 

4. The argument  has been made that if we  bar this then what else though could be argued back then is their no standard then the other way

The song being about "date rape" is questionable at best. If people are going to start call out anything questionable it's not going to help the movement.

Ok, I've read both sides of the argument, as well as the articles linked by members on both sides.  I am willing to modify my position slightly to the extent I can appreciate that radio stations might opt to remove certain Christmas songs from their playlist so as not to offend listeners.  With that in mind, I've compiled a short list of popular Christmas carols with lyrics that people may find objectionable to the point where radio stations might consider not playing them any more.

Song:  'Do You Hear What I Hear'  Lyric: 'A child, a child, shivers in the cold'  Objection:  Gives child abusers a pass - they can't even keep this kid warm.

Song:  'Santa Baby'  Lyrics:  The entire song  Objection:  Portrays women as gold diggers.

Song:  'I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas'  Lyric:  'There's lots of room for him in our two-car garage.'  Objection:  Promotes animal abuse (a garage is not a suitable environment for a hippo).

Song:  'Gloucestershire Wassail'  Lyric:  'Wassail, wassail, all over the town / Our bread it is whit and our ale it is brown'  Objection:  Promotes public drunkenness and hooliganism.

Song:  'The Christmas Song'  Lyric:  '...folks dressed up like Eskimos'  Objection:  Insensitive to Inuit traditions.

Song:  'Up On The Housetop'  Lyrics:  Verses 3 and 4  Objection:  Promotes the giving of gender-specific toys.

Song:  'The Chipmunk Song'  Lyric:  'ALVIIIIIN!!'  Objection:  Verbal abuse of an underage foster chipmunk.

Song:  'Frosty The Snowman'  Lyric:  'He led them down the streets of town, right to the traffic cop / And he only paused a moment when he heard him holler, "Stop!" '  Objections:  Disrespect for law enforcement, corruption of minors.

Song:  'Blue Christmas'  Lyric:  'I'll have a blue Christmas without you'  Objection:  Encourages co-dependency.

Song:  'Dominic The Donkey'  Lyric:  'Look at they mayor's derby on top of Dominic's head'  Objection:  Animal abuse.

It isn't wrong at all, that's my point.  ALL music should be reviewed, and if it offends or upsets more than 5-6% of the audience, radio stations shouldn't play it. For example, maybe kids shouldn't be allowed to listen to 'Frosty the Snowman', as it tells them to ignore police instructions, like 'Stop!'  And do you want kids growing up thinking that's it's OK to keep hippos in garages?

Something must be done!!

As has been repeatedly pointed out to me, the song hasn't been 'banned'.  But I'm thinking of sending a nice Christmas card to the radio station in question for having the courage to pull a song that for 50 years was considered harmless, but is now clearly a danger to women everywhere.

Moral:  Don't be alone with Dean Martin on a snowy night, or he'll try to rape you.

Something being considered harmless for a long period of time does not mean upon reflection it is harmless and i don't the radio considers their choice not to play it an act of courage .
