RE: Atheists and Cakes
Lots of atheists like to bother people and pretend to be victims of everything. Not all though. Of course you will get the ones who will prance into a bakery with video recording on their smart phone because they know what's about to happen. Then you get an edited version of it on YouTube and Facebook that shows conveniently skips past the part of them hassling the owners of the business.

If an atheist didn't want me to bake a cake, I would just go to a different bakery. There's always someone who will take your money and I would rather have them baking my cake instead of a person with some sort of bias about it. I mean, why the heck would anybody want someone making their food that had issue with it? That would be about the last person I would want making anything for me that I was about to consume.

The thing with gays though is that most don't stir up nonsense like that. They're just people with a different outlook on life, and a lot of it is kept personal. I used to have a job with several coworkers that were from the LGBT community. Their sexual orientation rarely even came up in conversation. If it did, it was typically through light-hearted conversation without looking for any type of approval, and nobody was looking to make an issue out of it. Just smile and MYOB. Smile

Why do so many atheists  want to force Christian bakers to bake cakes for gay couples?

They don't approve of the lifestyle and deem it immoral. I fully believe that is their right.

Why must a devout Christian have to bake a cake to celebrate something he or she does not believe in?

Please tell me.

What exactly is virtuous about refusing to bake cake for gay couples? I don't understand some of you guys. When I was a fundamentalist Christian, I didn't have any of this hatred and bigotry towards gay people. Are you that hateful to refuse to do people who are different from you a service that you would gladly do for others?

A lot of it is misinterpreted and not hatred or bigotry.  If you were a fundamentalist Christian as you stated, I would think the conflict should be obvious.  I would bake two gay people a cake any day of the week I if I ran a bakery, but I wouldn't put certain things on the cake because my work is an extension of who I am.  If I can't believe in it, then why should I be doing it?  It could equally be considered hatred and bigotry to force someone to create something they object to.

So, what I'm hearing is that I shouldn't come to you if I want a cake decorated with marzipan penises that spell out 'God Is Dead'?

there you see is the problem, they are objecting to something which should be accepted and it is in fact legally mandated that it is accepted.

The bakers refusal is a sign of the bakers evil, not the person who askes for the cake.

Pretty much. just like I wouldn't expect to bake a cake for you that had anything on it you found inappropriate or offensive, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't be willing to bake you something else if that was my business.

And that it is found offensive or inappropriate is the problem. People need to grow up.

*shrug*  If the money was right, I'd bake a cake that read, 'God Bless Donald Trump'. I find the words 'God', 'Bless' and 'Donald Trump' to be offensive, but my being offended by something is no reason not to serve customers who feel differently.

Or people just need to learn to respect others.  If people want to be gay, then they can choose to be gay.  Has nothing to do with me, and I don't go out of my way to make their lifestyle my business.  If a gay baker didn't want to bake me a heterosexual cake, I would just tip my hat to them, leave, and move on to the next baker who would gladly take my money.  No big deal.  They didn't have to bake my cake, and I ended up getting it anyway from someone who wanted my business.  Win for all parties involved and no tears necessary.
