Is being an atheist important to you?

RE: Is being an atheist important to you?
Not really. It is what I am, but around here religion is not such a big thing as it seems to be in the US. My life is no different to most Christians, and we go to church about the same amount. Weddings and funerals.

That data shows the atheism is no less important to the identity of self-identify atheists as it is to theists.

Meh. Never been anything else. I used to say "I'm not religious enough to call myself an atheist". If all the religions in the world disappeared last night I wouldn't notice.

Skepticism is important to me; I want to have actual evidence and sound reasons for things I believe rather than simply accepting claims because they may be comforting. Atheism is simply a result of that.

It is important to me that people with authority in society disseminate accurate information and make decisions based on the best available evidence and that charlatans get called out. Anti-theism is a result of that.

His post doesn't contradict yours. Some atheists are fervent in their atheism and some aren't. It's the same with the religious.

Yes.
As a former theist, how i now look at the world, other people and myself has changed enourmously from back when i imagined there being a perfect god that gave afterlife, perfect justice and that had made me specifically.

It's not important to actively be an atheist, mind you. But shedding faith allowed me to change so much.
For the better, too, I feel.

Definitely not. In order for it to be important to me, I'd have to care about other people being religious, and I don't.

At the time of my response as well the data actually showed that half thought it was important  to them. Would you say that 50% of Christians think their religion unimportant?

RE: Is being an atheist important to you?
I took the question to mean "Is rational thought important to you" ?

Atheism is a product of rational thought.
