Great Poetry
RE: Great Poetry
Morality, By Brian37 (AKA Brian James Rational Poet on FB and @brianrrs37 on twitter)

Call me insane
For quoting Paine
"To do good is my religion"
Without the superstition

I value the likes
Of Martin Luther King
But no Jesus required
To do the right thing

I value the likes
Of Ann Frank
"In spite of everything"
Still saw the good in humans

I value the likes
Of Malala
Who took a bullet
From sexist male behavior

As an atheist
I do see good
In humans worldwide
It should be understood

That there will never be
A perfect utopia
Where one religion dominates
Over all others

This skeptic would only
Dare to suggest
Our morality is in the individual
Not in our competing sects

Cory Booker
Said it best
"Don't tell me what you believe
Show me through your actions"

All our factions
Can seek to divide
But yet still ignore
That all humans die

To me
That means time
Is better served
To accept we only get one life.

This is clearly the equal of every poem you've ever posted here.

RE: Great Poetry
Laziness by Robert Service

Let laureates sing with rapturous swing
Of the wonder and glory of work;
Let pulpiteers preach and with passion impeach
The indolent wretches who shirk.
No doubt they are right: in the stress of the fight
It's the slackers who go to the wall;
So though it's my shame I perversely proclaim
It's fine to do nothing at all.

It's fine to recline on the flat of one's spine,
With never a thought in one's head:
It's lovely to lie staring up at the sky
When others are earning their bread.
It's great to feel one with the soil and the sun,
Drowned deep in the grasses so tall;
Oh it's noble to sweat, pounds and dollars to get,
But - it's grand to do nothing at all.

So sing to the praise of the fellows who laze
Instead of lambasting the soil;
The vagabonds gay who lounge by the way,
Conscientious objectors to toil.
But lest you should think, by this spatter of ink,
The Muses still hold me in thrall,
I'll round out my rhyme, and (until the next time)
Work like hell - doing nothing at all.

Impressive....

Shows flow and meter,

But how many get the message?

Art isn't about structure, art isn't about shitting escargot or calamari. Art isn't about caviar.

I am sorry that you are so stupidly stuck on your own pre conceived ideas of what art is. But again, that is your baggage, not mine.

I think Service's message is pretty clear.

I don't think Service's poetry qualifies as 'art' (he would agree, if he wasn't dead).  I like the poem, that's all.

I don't eat escargot, calamari or caviar.  Not sure what you're on about.

EVERYONE has preconceived ideas of what constitutes art.  I've told you before, I'm not claiming your stuff isn't art, just that I don't care for it.

NO SHIT ASSHOLE, so stop shitting on me.

I have never and will never claim all my poems are Nobel Prize material. But at the same time, I do not operate like most artists. I pump my poems out, both good and bad, without worrying about perfection. Just like photographers take thousands of photographs, and many are scrap but the rare few are worthy.

So just admit you don't care for it, like you said. I am fine with that.

I've admitted that several times, but you can't stop taking it personally.  I tell you I don't like the stuff you write, and you respond with name calling.  *shrug*

I am not taking it personally other than I am TIRED of your bullshit repetition.

Grow the fuck up!

Dude you are fucking like Bart Simpson in the clip where he keeps saying "Are we there yet, are we there yet, are we there yet."

Yes at some fucking point I am going to tell you to 'FUCKING KNOCK IT OFF".
