An Essay about Atheism in Latin
August 25, 2019 at 8:59 am
Has anybody else here tried to write an essay about atheism in Latin? Here is what I've written: Quote:Quid homines in hac agora censent, num Deus realis sit?
Which arguments would you use to argue for atheism in a language you don't really speak? Perhaps it would be a good thing to write an introduction to atheism that's easy to translate. What I've written may be a relatively good start.

I suppose that if I were trying to convince a Vestal Virgin that she was wasting her life and that she should run off with me to Smyrna, arguments in Latin might be a wise idea. Other than that, I can't think of any reason to write ANYTHING in a language I don't speak. Moreover, I don't see the point in writing arguments for atheism in a language that I speak but that my audience doesn't.
It's just silly.

I know a person whose linguistic ability was such that from a basis of zero knowledge in Japanese, he was able to master it to the point of writing a scholarly paper and then chair a symposium in japanese, all in less than 6 weeks. During these weeks he neither slack in his day job nor shafted his family or normal leisure activities, such as reading a novel in his native Portuguese.

Why would any language be needed to reject or accept Santa, Yoda or Thor?
I am sure all those translate well like Star Wars in any language, but no language proves any monotheistic or polytheistic god.
Otherwise Batman is real because someone claimed it.

I've written it in Latin myself. Creationists often say that the Bible makes perfect sense if you read it in Latin or Greek or Hebrew. Well, that's not true in my case.

After having read Cicero, Sallust and Caesar, your text seemd to be very simply structured. Then i realized that all those authors are really heavyweights and probably latin as having been spoken on the street (or what you wrote) may differ from those like common english differs from Shakespeare.
Anyhow, was quite fun to read your article, although i have to admit to my long time *problem*, an abundance of lack of latin vocabulary (i had to look up quite a few words ).

Writing something in another language doesn't automatically make words less gullible.
