Or we just don't buy the justification

Skittles demands the death penalty, or didn't you know?

Says who? George? Of course he is going to lie to mitigate his culpability.

His real defense was, "The black guy was scary.'

The jury didn't agree with your piddling assessment.

They saw all the legal evidence.

You have an opinion based on your fucked up life experience.

If he feared for his life, which is likely, is it any surprise he tried to go for their weapons in desperation?

I don't find it surprising and I feel sorry for the guy.
What a horrible thing to have happen to you when you're out for a jog.
He might not have even tried to wrestle the gun off them.
Maybe one of them got nervous or maybe a hair trigger.
Still no evidence yet that this is a pair of racist rednecks though.

Lets turn it around.
What evidence is there that these two guys would not have chased down a white guy that they believed to be the perpetrator?

If the defense manages to select a jury like that one, for the same publicly available reasons that they selected that one..they could probably get off with a slap on the wrist.

It doesn't matter whether they chased down a white guy or a black guy, lol. What they did isn't legal. Not even remotely.

No, same difference either way, apart from the fact that Arbery was able to put up a struggle against his murderers. Martin wasn't.

Let's turn it around even more.  Two black men jump in a truck and chase down a white guy who looks a little like a white guy in a security video.  They threaten him with firearms.  He resists and the white guy ends up dead. Police investigate and find out that the dead white guy was unarmed and that there is no evidence he committed a crime of any sort.

Do you REALLY think it would have taken the cops ten weeks to arrest the black guys? In Georgia?

If this whole incident isn't racist, it's doing a pretty goddamned good imitation of it.

The rule is that it's not racist unless the guys are wearing hoods and burning a cross while saying "I'm a racist" as they commit the crime, and even if they did that, it was probably just ironic or culturally southern.

This is how we protect and privilege racism.

It took them ten weeks for a variety of factors. Institutional racism, yes. The fact that everyone in an immediate position to prosecute was family or a friend of the family, and the fact that, as a former cop, the perp used all the right scripted statements that a person would employ if they had just shot any other unarmed black man.

This lead to a situation with a da, who would otherwise be tasked with prosecuting these dirtballs...saying things such as the blurb I posted before. But wait, there's more! The same guy also explained that arberys prior convictions -

Quote:“help explain his apparent aggressive nature and his possible thought pattern to attack an armed man.”

Motherfucker got shot, and they were trying to convict him.

Meanwhile, the "how is this racist" song and dance doesn't even apply, because georgia doesn't have a law that could be used to prosecute them for hatecrimes. It failed in the senate last year, lol. So no one needs to fret and worry, these poor guys aren't going to be convicted of lethal racism anytime soon. The new prosecutor, third times the charm, has even swore that they know nothing about the case and come with fresh eyes and no preconceived ideas.
