'Nights in White Satin' was the prom theme my senior year of high school in 1975. The song had already been around nearly a decade then.
They were preforming and releasing albums in the 80s, yes, but they really don't fall into the category of an 80s era band.
According to Wiki/google the song "The Voice" was released in 1981.

Seasons in the Sun is one of the sappiest songs ever...I suppose you were moved to tears by 'Wildfire' too.

Hell no, I never liked "Wildfire".
The biggest reason I liked Baker Street was because of the saxophone. I didn't understand the lyrics at the time, just loved the saxophone.
But as far as the Terry Jacks song, that did haunt me from lyrics like "Goodbye Michelle it's hard to die". Even then I didn't understand the lyrics other than it had sad notes to it and it sang of death. When you are that young and scared with the tone and notes of that song, and you don't know shit, it scared me. The Terry Jacks song wasn't like remembering a song you like. It was like having a nightmare.

Having seen a number of Moody Blues concerts, I can say that all recent Moody Blues concerts are exactly the same...down to the fake interactions on stage between the players.

‘Seasons In The Sun’ is a piece of pure, unadulterated crap.

Back then "Seasons In The Sun" was on heavy rotation, so when my mom or dad had the radio on, or their friends or a business I would hear it. I never said I liked it, I said it haunted me because of the lyrics about death. I actually don't hate or like it now, but I do understand it now. I didn't back then because I was a kid. To me "Seasons In The Sun" was like watching Jaws, but audio version. It wasn't a love or hate thing, just a scare thing. It had an up and down tone to it, and "We had joy we had fun" only to talk about "it's hard to die". I was a kid listening to a song dealing with death. I didn't know shit back then.

Most all of us liked sappy bubble gum as kids. I've had a room full of drunks singing along with Wildfire. People will tap their foot or groove to Bobby Sherman's Easy Come, Easy Go, until they realize it.
I tried but never liked the Moody Blues.

It’ll never cease to amaze me that a country that produced an authentic musical genius like Gordon Lightfoot could also produce a pandering, pop culture abomination like Terry Jacks.

Yup.
Seasons in the Sun sucked more than a $2 hooker.
But no one ever mentions the ultimate music genius behind The Pina Colada song.

Let's not forget the classic "Having My Baby".
