RE: 2012
Well, I haven't heard a theory put forward yet that's survived scientific scrutiny. Except for the theory that it'll be pretty much like every other year. Politicians will suck. North Carolina's summer will be brutal. Oh wait, I'm going to England and ElDinero's coming here, and by the time we're done with both countries you might be praying for an apocalypse, but such is life.

Seriously, it's Y2K all over again.

Is there any truth in it at all? I mean, is any of it based on anything which is true?

Stuart Robbins separates the science from the fiction pretty well, if you fancy a bit of reading.

Thanks. It's an awful lot to read right now though. Could you summarise?

Not quite as well as one of our resident astronomy experts could. I'm the plant lady, not the star child.

Alei? Oro?

The Mayan calendar ends next year. Okay. That doesn't mean that the world is going to end. That doesn't mean there will be no December 23, 2012.

Calculations of time here on earth are merely human distinctions. There is no basis for these assumptions that since the Mayan calendar ends, the world will end. It's silliness. The world could end tomorrow, then the Mayan calender's ending date will mean as much as it does now.

But if you're willing to buy that load of crap, I have a car that I'm trying to sell. Runs great. The 1995 commercial for the car even says it's like the best car ever. You should buy it too!

Strange, all of my calendars end on the 31st of Dec....ARMAGEDDON!

(Pro-tip, if Mayan civilization and timekeeping survived to this day, in the year 2011, they'd be printing new calendars for 2012, and 2013)
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I don't think it has anything to do with the world actually ending. I think it has more to do with one "age" ending and another one beginning.

An age is 2,150 years. So... what's your point?
