I understand that the American justice system is racist as all fuck. That said, unlike a lot of cases you're thinking of, this is a spree killing. Eight people are dead instead of one. I looked back through
Wikipedia's long list of rampage killers in the US, and of those who survived long enough to see the inside of a courtroom, they were almost all either given a life sentence (or at least a ridiculously long sentence that they could never serve in full), executed, or found unfit to stand trial.
I could find exactly three exceptions: The first is Caril Ann Fugate, the girlfriend/accomplice of Charles Starkweather, who ended up only serving 17 1/2 years with quite a few mitigating factors, like the fact that she was likely roped into it by Starkweather, may not have even been an active participant in the murders, and most importantly, was only 14 at the time. You'll notice none of these apply to the shooter in this case.
The other two were two very obscure cases and when I say obscure, I mean that not only have I never heard of them, but Wikipedia doesn't even have an article on them: Ronald J. Popadich and Kenyon William Pruyn. In both these cases, they only killed two people, and in each case, the sentence was still 25-30 years to life. I don't know what mitigating circumstances led to them getting a possible 25 to 30 years instead of just life imprisonment, but I highly doubt any of them apply to him. For what it's worth, both are still in jail and while the former is still listed as having a release date in 2032, the latter has been repeatedly denied parole.
If there's any plea bargain in this case, it's just going to be to keep the needle out of his arm. And, frankly, from what I know of prison, I doubt that life imprisonment is going to be much less harsh on him.

I'm not sure about that. Elliot Rodger had an easier time getting guns than sex. As have a bunch of incel shooters who actually tried to approach women.
