Coffee

RE: Coffee
Coffee can bring tears to your eyes??

OK, I think you take it a bit too seriously. I just simply enjoy a cup of tea over a cup of coffee... I am emotionally attached to neither.

RE: Coffee
If I haven't had a cup and it's been a bad morning and I get a good whiff of the scent rolling off the coffee factory down the street from us, yeah. I've cried before. That might be the caffeine addiction talking.

Watch out for the crumpets. God-awful things.
Listen here coffee junkie...high tea is served throughout good old England (not just London). It is traditional to have sandwiches, scones (served with strawberry jam and clotted cream). A tradition observed throught the whole ex-empire to this day except one corner in the western provinces, whose name escapes me.

Coffee is so limp it is served with biscotti, macaroons and is topped with all kinds of shite to make it look vaguely presentable and to stop it tasting like pipe cleaner fluid.

O Captain, my Captain.

First of all, if you have to knock biscotti, it's because you haven't tasted biscotti made by my two pretty hands. It's quite good. Second, I drink my coffee sometimes done up all fancy, but actually do not want all sorts of shit all over it unless I'm doing it Irish style in which the whipped cream balances out the bite of the whiskey. Third, you must have been drinking some shite that comes in a cheap plastic can pre-ground and already tasteless, because a *good* cup of coffee is the sexually promising kiss of the morning. I generally sip mine over nice and runny over-easy eggs, hot southern biscuits (nothing like your English biscuits) and steaming sausage. In the evenings, a spot of coffee with a bit of vanilla creamer nicely rounds out an ice cream dessert. I don't eat macaroons unless it's Passover, and then you don't have to worry about what I'm drinking because I'm usually also feasting on gefilte fish which is far more offensive than even the worst cup of coffee to a non-Jew's palate.

Well, high tea isn't really something we do in Scotland...

Warm scones freshly out the oven served with the finest strawberry preserve and clotted cream from Devon. The cream is hand drawn from Fresians by fair fresh faced wenches from the west country. All served with a smashing cuppa, poured from a gently warmed ceramic pot of delicious refreshing tea. No contest TSQ.

You had me until the tea part. Give me coffee instead. Call it my rebel nature.

RE: Coffee
This is a serious "tick" with me.

I live in Vienna, Austria. A city that has a rich history of "Coffeehouses", yet I cannot find a decent cup anywhere.

If I go to Italy or Slovenia, there I tend to find something good. As you can probably guess, my coffee is not "coffee", but rather espresso. To be exact, Moka espresso. You need time to make it, ca. 12 minutes (grind the beans and hand pack it) and a pot like this one:

http://mohakaffee.wordpress.com/2010/12/...a-express/

I use the version that make "6 cups" of espresso. For me, that is a single cup.

Meow!

GREG

btw... how do you link a picture from the web here? Normally I would not link a website for a picture.

I may never be in the position to understand certain things, but I am not about to create an anthropomorphic deity out of my short-commings.
