RE: Are you in therapy?

I got into a relationship so toxic that it ruined many of my friensdhips. After, I was alone and dealing with feelings of worthlessness and suicidal ideation. I had those last two friends who stuck with me and one of them recommended a therapist who had been able to help her. It only took several weeks, but it helped me get through a rough time. She had dogs in the office, it was very soothing, and she helped me break some unhealthy thought patterns.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.

I'm truly sorry you had to go through all that, but glad you found help. Only several weeks? That's fantastic!
My shrink had two certified therapy dogs. A pair of beautiful Akita's. Very gentle, and friendly. One would always greet me and sit near me during my sessions.

No, not at the moment.
People keep telling me I should, with my health continuing to deteriorate.
But, at this stage, I don't see the point.

I guess you mean your physical health ?
If you mean your mental health, imo it's better to get help sooner rather than later.

I've been thinking about it more and more in regards to my deconversion. It's only been a little over a year since I became atheist but I have a hard time with getting emotional in regards to certain concepts and ideas. I have a lot of bitterness towards religious people and ideas but it's all heavily tied to reactions to what happened to me. I don't know. I don't know if it's something I just need to wait to get over, like time and distance will calm me down. Or if I can't move on because I'm just not processing it on my own very well. These atheist communities are great and all but I'm not sure it's the best place to deal with my religious trauma.
I never went to a shrink; mainly because I prefer to find the absolute truth and know very well that a shrink is getting payed to tell me a script he studied in college.
I simply have found a code of ethics and sticked to practicing it:
A-Don't kill
B-Don't steal
C-Don't murder your children -including not making women pregnant knowing you can't provide for any resulting child-.
D-Leave people alone to choose their path in life.
If I have a problem in keeping and maintaining this code of ethics; I would ask a shrink for a solution.
Currently I take anti-depressants with my regular meds. Helped me a lot.

I’m not in therapy but I’ve been working closely with my family nurse practitioner to manage my depression and GAD with medication. It’s been a long hard road but I’ve been doing much better and even have the energy to go back to the gym now. I’m on a combo of Wellbutrin and Buspar.

Therapy + mindfulness meditation has changed my life entirely. If you do not have an in-depth understanding of your own psychology you're selling yourself short.

I would say you don't understand the practice of therapy. Sure, like any medical practitioner, they learn how to perform their profession in college, but any good therapist does far more than read from a script. A lot of people with no experience in therapy don't understand what it is or how it works. All I can say is that you can't judge something you have no experience with or don't understand.
And it's really sad that you believe that you would only need a therapist if you had problems with one of those things on your list. There are lot of other problems/issues in life than that short list.
Why is it so?

Take this with a grain of salt Winter, spongy has 'everyone needs therapy' bias. You may or may not benefit, routinely check in with your physicians and follow their directions. If they suggest therapy give it a try, you can always quit.
Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.

Only the crazies go to therapy.
So yes, for some time now. Therapy can work wonders if you find the right person to talk to. If there isn't a connection of trust, it will never work.
I have worked with people who treat you like an old friend who you can tell anything to. I have worked with people who treat you very clinically, almost no real personal exchange, other than 30 seconds of small talk. Both can work, it just depends on what you are looking for.
Sometimes, just forums dedicated to your round aboutish issue can provide glorious insight.
