To be honest I like your posts. It just seems you like to dwell on warfare for some reason.

His very online moniker is after the Turkish general who took Constantinople.

He wasn't a general, he was a King. He had the same name as me, but his title was "the conqueror".
We call him "Fatih Sultan Mehmed Khan". And his full titles and honours go even far beyond that.

Sorry, yes, I knew he was a Sultan. I slipped and called him a "general" because he took the leadership role in that battle.

Well, besides taking Constantinople, he wasn't that great at the arts of war, though.
He wasn't quite a man of war, but of the arts. He rather styled himself the successor of the Roman emperors, and indulged in fine arts.
He was mostly remembered by his conquest of Constantinople.

Maybe they think that worker solidarity is a thing of the past and Government walks all over the working classes and there's not a thing anyone can do about it.

On a related note (to the OP)... what do people think of Eliot Spitzer? He's been featured on UK TV this past week (first I've ever heard of him, I haven't followed US current affairs much). The guy seems to be spot on, if a self proclaimed charismatic who walked into a wall.

In the same vein, I was interested to try to look up UK government spanding over the past half century. This chart shows public spending compared to GDP.
I was surprised at the results. Happy about pension and health spending levels and the reduction in defence spending.
