So now you're saying popularity is a sign that a work is "full of nonsense"? What does that mean, exactly?
Quick question, what Manga do you read? It's my understanding that Manga is the most popular form of graphic novel on the planet today.
Can you offer anything of actual substance to the conversation?
@ Ahriman Again, which "tomes of indoctrination" are you speaking of? You do understand that the term "tome" usually refers to a very thick/dense book, don't you?
To be thorough here, I'll mention that the initial ban on New Kid in Katy, TX was lifted once a review committee had a chance to review the book. The author was scheduled to make an appearance at the school and that, too, was cancelled but rescheduled later. The initial uproar started with 400 signatures on a petition. This is in a town of about 20,000 people. That's a pretty small group for that size town.
But the momentum is clearly moving in the direction of banning and highly scrutinizing books and other material written by minorities out of a fear that they are attempting to brainwash white children. Other states are in the same mode and in Texas, 850 books have been marked for review. For anyone wondering, school libraries all have a qualified librarian (who must have a Master's degree in some states) who select the books for the library, so it's not like the publishers are just dumping books on the schools with no one considering their worth.
I can't say if teachers assign books to be read or not. In our local elementary school they have a reading program where students choose their own books and get points for each book read. Outside of classes about specific content, like history, specific book are not assigned for the reading program.

Of course you do.
Maybe you should be telling 'these people' that they all need to be in therapy. It just might work.

I read girly manga, but as for its popularity, manga very rarely gets turned into a movie.

I like how my suggestion resonates with you. Clearly you see a need in yourself that wasn't being addressed. People are like that.

So, what qualifies you to talk about this issue if you know virtually nothing about it?

They talked about CRT on Fox News, putting CRT in an unfavorable light. Sometimes you can trust those guys to be 100% right about what they say.

And you know this how? You admitted to knowing nothing about CRT and refusing to even watch a video to learn something. What do you know?

In fact, that's a very good point. I do believe therapy would help "those people" and much as it would help you.
And while we're at this, what is it you find objectionable about my comments on this subject? You use quotes around "those people" and suggest I'm dog whistling when in fact I am not. There's no whistling here at all. I'm calling out the outrageousness of right wingers who are exaggerating the impact of books that include the subject of race. It's ridiculous. So what is wrong with that? Why do you feel the need to pretend to be cagey? You don't agree, fine. Explain why.
So, what we know about @ Ahriman is that he refused to learn anything about CRT except for that Fox segment where Tucker Carlson (bastion of truth that he is) bashed it as something horrible. That's enough for Ahriman. But Ahriman also feels that he knows enough about the subject to be opposed to CRT as a valid topic and of course agrees with any right wing critic who says a comic book is teaching white kids to be ashamed of themselves. All the while, admits to having read none of the material and only reads girly Manga books. This is the root of the problem I'm talking about. People watching Fox new and other extreme right outlets are the ones getting indoctrinated with hate and fear, and they in turn point the finger at anyone they are commanded to and accuse them of committing acts of indoctrination. If I didn't know better I might think we are in a simulation of the novel 1984. Hey, maybe that book will get banned as well.

You see it as being overly reactionary, I see it as a preventative measure. A problem won't become a bigger problem if the original seed isn't allowed to germinate.

What problem are you talking about?
I see this as being reactionary because it is. It's solving a problem that doesn't exist.
@ Ahriman and @ brewer
Let me pose the question another way. Suppose a black man or woman decides to write a book based on their personal experiences and those just happen to include some acts of racism. In the character's journey through life, he/she must overcome some racial obstacles to reach their desired goal. What about that scenario is dangerous to white children or inappropriate in any way for them to read?

Anyone with half a brain can surmise that CRT is problematic. This shit is nothing new, the Liberals have been playing this game for decades. Allowing CRT to proliferate its message would set a bad precedent, for everyone.

Can you or will you explain any of that? Saying these things is one thing but explaining how they are true is another.
How is CRT problematic?
What game have liberals been playing for decades?
What is the "message" of CRT?
Just so you know, I am pretty liberal person, so I can tell you how a liberal thinks if you want to know. I'm not the most liberal person but pretty far left as social issues go.
@ Ahriman
To help you along, let me explain in very simple terms what CRT is. This is very basic and is skipping over a lot of detail.
CRT is a graduate level college examination of how racist legal and societal practices in the past contributed to the cultural status of black people now. Its been around for over 40 years.
So, can you tell me what is problematic about that?
Why is it so?
