Does Social Issues matter when deciding your political affiliation?

RE: Does Social Issues matter when deciding your political affiliation?
Another demonstration of a valid difference of opinion that we could disagree on without arguing or disagreeing over any social issue.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

If you don't support same sex marriage, you can fuck right off with a rusty machete. You won't get my support under any circumstances. Same with abortion rights.

If anything, in the US Social issues are the only ones that matter, because neither party is really all that different when it comes to fiscal issues. For the right, it's their actions. For the left, it's their inaction.

I agree with the first part and on the other part I would have to disagree.

I wish I had the luxury to pick and choose candidates. But when you’re in a two party system and one of those parties is specifically, directly hostile to you, you don’t have that luxury.

But that’s never been a big issue for me; even before coming out as trans or as an atheist, I was always a die hard democrat. Today, I really do wish they would stand up more for things like labor unions, the minimum wage and workers rights in general; they’re still FAR better than the republicans in all those issues, even if I’m not happy with them.

I think about that all the time. Some amount of my own apathy reduces to the fact that whoever wins in this race to the botton...I'm good. I'm the right shade of lipstick to the nuts...and my positions on issues fit with the societal orthodoxy of the insurgents. I'll be golden no matter which way the cookie crumbles, unlike others.

Social issues matter almost entirely to me, as there are those in our Society who would like to see me and others like me publicly executed.

If you had to internalize the reality of people who didn't agree with you but -wouldn't- publicly execute you for that utterance...would you put them in the same category as the others?

Are they close to an enemy, or a friend?

Anyone wanting to see me dead is an enemy.

Hooah. -but still..if some part of the american electorate is full on death cult (rather than simply disagreeing with you).....well...

As you know, it bares no resemblance to the america -I- know, and that's fucking saying something. Anyone wanting to see you dead, even for good reason, is my enemy. To the very end of days, no exceptions.

Reminds me of a luis torrens line. The dog of my heart.

Depends on what is called a social issue. There are several red lines, you better not cross, if you want my vote. I'm for a liberal (not in the American political sense) society. Meaning, everyone should be accepted for who they are. I'm also for a peaceful society and certainly won't award someone, who strives to polarize.
