RE: Of laptops and power cords......

I ran a quick stress test on the hardware, it came back with the summery "Wattage could not be determined" meaning it was recognizing it was plugged in, but saying the battery may not charge. Then I did a deep hardware advanced stress test, again everything passed but also gave the same message that the "wattage" of the power supply could not be determined.

So, having never had this problem before today, it still seems to remain an issue of the power cord itself, or damage to the interior jack. And just now checking the life of the battery, it is saying I am down to 71percent.

Well it looks like I am going to be off line once again while I sort this out. The battery isn't charging even though it recognized the power cord being plugged in.

You should check if the power cord has power to deliver. Maybe that's the thing that broke on the inside.

I will personally never play the wild rover no more. Its just too easy for assholes to point at me.  Yeah we're fuckin ballers from way back......, but stop.  We're all the devils own.  So, there's that. As I think Boru might be able to explain from personal experience.

I quite like the Dubliners. It warms me heart to know that the two worst voices in Irish traditional music were able to find each other.

Hey Boru, never mind on the help. I got my laptop back just now and it is fixed and already had me logged in. I didn't expect the guy to have it done today. But he brought it back to me just now, and it is charging fine and everything works.

It turns out that the internal jack is a cord and plugs into the motherboard, it is not soldered at all. So he took the casing off, unplugged the wire, cleaned out the entire casing, bent back the casing to fit snug, and the power cord fits nicely and works.

Believe me, for what I paid it was far cheaper than buying a new computer.

I was able to bend it back in place over the hole where you stick the power cord in. But I wonder if I bent the peg inside the laptop housing and broke a connection making charging the battery impossible. I guess only time will tell.

Right now my laptop is plugged in, but when I click on the battery icon it says it only tracks battery usage when it is on battery power, not when it is plugged in. But I am plugged in and when I hit battery settings it is still telling me how much time I have remaining on my battery charge.

You may have broken the solder on the internal jack, in which case it's cheaper to replace the computer than have it repaired, probably.

You may have gotten lucky and it only broke the internal insulation on the power cord itself. Do you have another, compatible charger to test it?

There is no solder in this one.  The guy said it was a a wire under the casing that plugged into the motherboard. The guy DID fix it and brought it back to me today. The black battery icon was moving, indicating receiving a charge. I don't think it is my laptop at all. My house is a trailer and very shitty construction, I think I have an electric flow imbalance causing the laptop to misread the input saying that the cord is incompatible. Simply unplugging it should not cause it to not charge when you plug it back in.

I am getting a wattage error which is trying to tell me that the cord is bad.  But he had swapped out the bad cord with one that worked at his shop and he gave me that one.

Glad you made it back.

This is making me want to pull my hair out.

I tried yet another wall socket and it started working/charging again.

You need to call an electrician. Like now, now, now.

Isolate the jack that isn't delivering enough juice, and have an electrician look at it. Test every jack in your trailer with your computer while you're at it.
