What do you imagine I'm trying to convince you of?
Here is what I'm saying:
Some atheists believe that raising children in a religion is child abuse.
Child abuse is bad, and punishable by law.
Therefore, some atheists believe that religious parents should be punished.

So you suppose it's only atheists on the Internet who think religion is child abuse? Or are you just making an assumption that has no basis in fact.
What percentage of atheists do you suppose are on the Internet?
And what percentage of atheists on, or off, the Internet think religion is child abuse?
Is this just another of your pronouncements that come out of your head?

Non-religious parents should be punished, too, if they're abusing their children.

There are atheists on the Internet who say that raising a child with religion is child abuse.
Child abuse is illegal.
So if they're serious in what they say, and not just talking shit for effect, then they advocate the involvement of the government (like Child Family Services) to intervene with, if not punish, religious parents. Yeah that's not child abuse.

Some of them are - and this has been put to the legal test. Used to be, here in the us - with our expansive ideas about religious freedom, that you could christian science your kid to death.
Not anymore. OFC..atheists can't really take credit for that. It was other nutball christians, juries full of them..that decided not to let some nutball christians abuse their kids.

I agree with you.
I think it's a very foolish thing to say.

Until you don't - just like any of the people on duty who've convicted parents for child abuse (and worse) despite their religious defense.
Or, hell..Bel..maybe you'd be the lone vote to acquit....but I doubt it. Can you think of any example, among the very serious things you raised...that other people here on these boards had in mind when offering that conclusion, that you -don't- think is child abuse? As it's very foolish, and all........

Not so foolish thing to say, actually.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Thank you, I knew that someone here would affirm that they think it's child abuse.
