President Biden's brain does malfunction quite often, and people are living in denial if they don't see the serious decline in his mental condition. He's constantly clueless about what he's supposed to be doing and will need to be escorted off stage by his wife (or the Easter Bunny) because he doesn't know where to go. Bidens extremely unqualified Press Secretary made his recent gaff even worse with her awful explanation of the event. This is what happens when you play identity politics and hire someone only for their skin colour, when they clearly are not up to the job.

Now, having said that, Biden with half a brain is still superior to Pete Buttigieg or Kamala Harris. Biden has been doing more than most lefties expected I'd say, like forgiving student loans, giving federal workers a $ 15 dollar minimum wage, cracking down on predatory banking fees, etc, which is a story that just came out. Kamala Harris has a lot of qualifications too. Still one of the lowest approval ratings of all time, and one of the worst public speakers of all time, which is what is entailed of the job, and also of the job of Press Secretary. And you are the only one who actually has supported policies that disproportionately impact black folks in a majorly negative way, as we talked about in a certain other thread that probably can't be mentioned here, so nice try, racist. And I'm probably also far more liberal than you when it comes to treatment of prisoners. I want to give black serial killers voting rights, while they are in prison. Do you want to give someone in jail who invaded the Capitol on Jan 6 voting rights while they're in prison? I doubt it. You just want to virtue signal about how you care so much.

I agree that Kamala has no charisma, and doesn't come across as a genius.

But, why should someone in jail not have national or state voting rights?  I can see how local voting rights might be a problem - a town with a local prison could literally be run by the inmates.  Basically being in prison doesn't make you a "resident" of the town.

Stripping voting rights from inmates is done largely for racist reasons, as are the laws that target racial groups.  We don't allow intelligence tests, mental stability tests, or any other for voting.  Doing one bad thing in your life doesn't make you a non-person.  Voting rights are the most important way to preserve all other rights - including human rights.

Anywho, as a correction, sure I think that the j6 defendants should retain their rights....I just don't think they should have made it to a jail cell. Conditioned that way I suppose. Far as I can tell they were enemy combatants storming a us government building, seen that before, we usually handle it a different way. I mean, at the very least...is there a bed shortage at gitmo?

I suppose it all comes down to what the goals of incarceration are. If they are retribution, yeah, take their voting rights. But arguing retribution for criminals these days is largely a moral black hole that is really not justifiable in the modern era. Incarceration can defensibly be said to serve two goals, rehabilitation and keeping criminals out of society to reduce the risk of reoffending. Neither goal is served by taking away their voting rights, the exact opposite, in fact. Participation in society's political processes aids rehabilitation which ultimately reduces the rates of recidivism.
