Nice site you've got here. I hope won't mind me lurking around for a bit while I peruse some threads and decide if I want to become a 'regular'. As the subtle "religious views" descriptor states, I'm a Christian (and happy to take any necessary flack for that!). Primarily, I'm here for amicable discussion about worldviews - not simply atheism versus theism, but also more wide-ranging comparison of theistic and atheistic worldviews. That is probably too much of an idealistic goal for joining a forum, but it'll have to do!

Since this is in "Introductions" I should probably share some things about me. I am 24, recently married, living in the South of England and currently in-between jobs working part-time for the church before we move to pastures new next August for my wife's work. I love reading and writing, and walks that end at a pub with decent ale on tap (any other type of walk is simply deficient).

That's plenty for now; happy to answer any questions/interrogations.

A christian? In ENGLAND? Confusedhock:

I thought we'd eradicated them all.
You are currently experiencing a lucky and very brief window of awareness, sandwiched in between two periods of timeless and utter nothingness. So why not make the most of it, and stop wasting your life away trying to convince other people that there is something else? The reality is obvious.

Me too. Whereabouts are you in the South, Matthaios? I'm near Basingstoke. Welcome to the forums.

RE: Hi
Maybe there aren't many Christians in England because we get it shoved down our throats at school (it's the law here). Message to American Christians - be careful what you wish for ....

Welcome

I've not discovered the chatroom yet; I did notice when signing up that the name "Matthaios" (and every other name seemingly related to the name "Matthew") wasn't available (hence the squiggle).

Good to have another Englander on board, even if you're not a fellow atheist (yet, anyway). Just one thing I'd like to throw out there at this early juncture: it would be nice if you asked what we, as atheists, actually believe instead of just flat-out telling us. It's not merely polite; it saves no end of hilarious misunderstandings further down the line.
I've got no interest in assuming that anyone believes or disbelieves anything. And I hope you folks will return the favour!

(By the way, Stimbo, my name is just the Greek for Matthew.)

Deepest, darkest Southampton (though we will definitely be moving in a more Northerly direction soon).

If you're not supposed to ride faster than your guardian angel can fly then mine had better get a bloody SR-71.

Interesting, as this wasn't the case at the state schools I went to. In any case, force-feeding Christianity (if indeed a force-fed belief system can be properly called "Christian") is certainly a good way to secularize a place.

No kidding. I was raised in Warsash, so I still have ties down that way. And Darwinian (one of the admins here) is in Gosport.

Anyhow, get amongst it so we can start telling you how silly you are.
