But, it's the Legislative branch that provides the defense funding. One could imagine a situation where the US government collapses because Congress is unable to go into session, martial law is declared, etc.
It's an extreme scenario, to be sure, but with someone like Trump having been in power, why risk it?? And, Biden, even though he is completely stable right now, what happens if he develops some neurological disease and starts to slip into the crazy side??
You do realize that the existing nukes are already paid for, right? Both houses of Congress could melt down into a greasy smear and it would have no effect on the US launching nuclear weapons.
And it doesn’t make a bit of difference if Biden (or any other President) goes teetotal fucknuts crazy - he’s still the only person in government able to authorize a nuclear attack.

This situation is an appropriate use of the term 'festering fucktangle'.
I believe it was Gaetz who nominated Trump for Speaker.

Yes, the weapons are paid for, but, the crews that deploy and manage them need to be paid. If the government shut down and service personnel went without their paychecks for long enough, many of them could start abandoning their posts, which could lead to chaos.

It was. Although it looks like there’s some good news. 14 of the holdouts are finally defecting back to McCarthy. 3 more defectors and the House can finally get on with their lives.

i have no interest in a house led by a speaker who depended on the trump wing to get on with their lives.

strictly speaking, last time is was armed insurrection. this time it is just to ensure insurrection has no consequences for the ring leader in chief so hopefully similar insurrection can be tried and again and maybe succeed next time.
not quite the same thing.

You’ve had government shutdowns before. I don’t recall and headlines about military personnel abandoning their posts.
It’s important to remember that the US government isn’t shut down, nor is it in imminent danger of doing so.

Oh, I agree; it's largely a hypothetical, but, then again, so was a sitting Vice President overturning the vote of the Electoral College in a Presidential election. In my opinion, the Constitution needs a new Ammendment that says the House of Representatives has 7 days to choose a new speaker by majority vote, after which, the speaker will be chosen based upon a plurality of votes with no minimum quorum necessary for the vote to take place.
