Are you implying I was actually posting slurs against trans people, because I don't remember calling anyone a t word? But who even knows what slur means any longer.

And if you were a new member rather than a respected member with a long history, you'd be getting called a hate monger right along with me. Your rep protects you on this one to a degree.

I don’t remember seeing any slurs, if that’s what you’re asking. I think the difference between our posts is that I do what I can to bring out the nuance into the situation. I see these trans activists’ concerns about Hogwarts Legacy and understand that they are, in fact valid. At the same time, however, I point out that pushing for a boycott can only really have one outcome.

Maybe my reputation as a respected member insulates me from the hate you get, but then again, I do what I can to be even-handed.

Here’s something that happened in West Virginia:

West Virginia GOP Legislature passes ban on transgender health care for minors

Quote: CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — A bill that would ban evidence-based health care for transgender minors in West Virginia, the state estimated to have more transgender youth per capita than any other in the nation, is headed to the desk of Gov. Jim Justice.

The Republican governor has not taken a public stance on the measure and it’s unclear whether he will sign it into law. A spokesperson said he was unavailable for comment Saturday.

A 2017 study by UCLA Law’s The Williams Institute estimated West Virginia had the highest per capita rate of transgender youth in the country.

And what’s worth noting is that, if you’re a trans kid in West Virginia, the only thing you can do is pretend you’re okay with presenting as your birth gender, or be actively suicidal. And If you are suicidal, you’ll only get the barest amount of puberty blockers they can get away with giving you. And it (by law) won’t even be enough to block puberty.

Finally some recognition for trans people.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Nun coalition rebels against anti-trans stance of Catholic leadership

A large coalition of Catholic nuns has issued a public letter supporting transgender, nonbinary and gender-expansive individuals – and “implicitly rebuking recent statements from the U.S. Catholic hierarchy.”

The letter was issued by a wide range of Catholic communities representing more than 6,000 religious orders across 18 states, RNS reported.

As members of the body of Christ, we cannot be whole without the full inclusion of transgender, nonbinary and gender-expansive individuals,” the letter reads.

It goes on to argue that “we will remain oppressors until we — as vowed Catholic religious — acknowledge the existence of LGBTQ+ people in our own congregations. We seek to cultivate a faith community where all, especially our transgender, nonbinary and gender-expansive siblings, experience a deep belonging.”

Release of the letter was “jump-started” by an anti-trans statement by Catholic Church leaders.

Something I found out through this video: Tennessee's Anti-Drag bill is even worse than many of us suspected:

First of all, the bill in question is extremely short. The full document has a word count of 295, 251 if you don't count anything before "Section 1." Due to this brevity, the law neglects to properly define "Male or Female Impersonator" and "Performance." Add to those facts that Tennessee does not allow people to change the sex on their birth certificate, you have a situation where it's possible for any trans person to violate the law just by going out in public. After all, if all that matters is what's on a trans person's birth certificate, and not only is there no legal definition of a "performance," but the right is creating such a panic around drag, criminalising trans people just being out in public is the logical conclusion.

Thank Jah the United States District Court for the Western District of Tennessee has blocked enforcement... at least for now.

OC man arrested for making threats targeted at Webster's Dictionary due to gender term definition changes

Quote:An Orange County man was arrested Tuesday after making a series of alleged death threats targeted towards Merriam-Webster dictionary after the company opted to change the definition of several words related to gender identification.

Rossmoor resident Jeremy David Hanson, 34, was arrested and charged with one count of interstate communication of threats to commit violence - with a potential sentence of up to five years in prison, plus three years of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000.

He was released and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, April 29 in Springfield, Mass. where one of Merriam-Webster's several offices is located.

The threats are said to have been made after the company changed the definitions for the words "girl," "woman" and "female."

It sure would have been nice if they'd noted dictionaries are descriptive, not proscriptive, and that how people use words, you know, evolves over time.

True, but evidently, a lot of people reject that premise.

How sad must this bloke's life be? I get an image of him sitting alone, in a semi-darkened room. with a glass of rapidly cooling Bovril at his elbow. He's unshaven and wearing a threadbare dressing gown with mismatched socks. He is carefully, page by page, pouring over the dictionary, looking for definitions that trigger him to making violent threats against strangers.

It is the one joy left in his lonely, meaningless life.
