My Revelation
#51
RE: My Revelation
I don't try to force my morality on anyone. I believe in God and that affects my sense of morality. I will argue for it though. Also, same as you, I will push back if someone tries to force me to accept their morality. I believe, though, if we can't agree on any ultimate truth we're in trouble as a society unless we can compromise for the benefit of society. That involves loving our enemies.

Why not concern yourself with your sin, let others concern themselves with theirs, if they so believe, and let God be the judge? In your belief all will be held accountable to God anyway, so what's the problem with that?
I don't know why so many of it think I've been preaching about your sin. I'm giving my opinions on real world issues. I'd like to see people live moral lives, but I don't lie awake at night worrying about it.

I am completely open to you changing your stance a bit from being hateful.  If there's one thing we don't need more of in this world it's hatefulness.

The 'loving your enemies' thing makes me wonder...do you think that trans people are your enemy?  Do you think that LGBT+ people of any sort (and I do not know all the letters - they keep changing) are your enemy?  Do you think immigrants are your enemy?

You language is a bit confusing.

Can you simply accept that there are good people who may not live the life you do, and that's okay?

God says to kill gays.

Why aren’t you doing what your gang leader commands you you do?

Are you more moral than the monster you worship?

Tbh I haven't really been following, except inasmuch as seeing you filling the gap left by Huggy, starting thread after thread about gay and gender issues. If you're not gay or transgender, why not just let people be? You think it's immoral, others don't, so why not just leave it to God to judge?

You just acknowledged in your reply to me that you love LGBT just as anyone else, and that you do NOT want them to be discriminated against.  Great How do you reconcile this with the bible telling that practicing (gay) homosexuality is to be punished with death. Huh

RE: My Revelation
Sin is specifically a transgression against God. It is not human morality. If there isn't a god, then the word "sin" is meaningless, and we are left with just plain morality.

Morality is a human thing. It is a set of expectations that we put on members of society so that society can function. It can also be a personal code that helps one get through life and feel good about yourself.

The test of whether human morality is good or bad, depends on values. If we value happiness as a species, that could be the test. If we value preventing suffering, that can be the test. If we value freedom, that can be a test.

However, if we value "doing what Yahweh seems to command, in some obscure passage written by some unknown writer", this may explicitly contradict the above values. God does not value freedom - he values obedience. God does not prevent suffering - in fact bearing suffering well is a sign of faithfulness.

Talking about "sin" on this forum has no usefulness. We don't believe in a god, and therefore we don't believe in sin. If you want to be loving to people, go for it. If you want to be shitty to people, own up to that too. I have no idea what God has to do with it, except you are worried that God is looking over your shoulder, and you might not have been "obedient" enough to this new revealed command.

So you don't advocate specific immigration policies?  The morals implicit in those imperatives don't come out of thin air.

You would be an exceptional individual if you didn't try to impose your views as to what should be through law, politics, and conversation.
