It has nothing to do with it

A very great deal.

For me, I find the idea that freewill doesn't exist tends to move me away from libertarian ideas of personal freedom towards more nanny-state socialist ideas of harm reduction (people need to be protected from themselves), including on issues like freespeech/ hatespeeech. It also tends to move me away from retributive justice towards more restorative justice methods (there's no such thing as evil or moral culpability, it's just luck) and more focused on crime prevention than punishment (esp with drugs etc).
My atheism+ physicalism makes me more inclined to see religion as harmful, especially when it is anti-science, which can have various political impacts from being sympathetic to banning circumcision and religious dress in state schools, and desiring to have a clear separation of church and state. I see theocracy as a risk, even when a soft variety. Not believing in a supernatural afterlife inclines me to seeing human consciousness as more fragile and needing to be protected, which influences my views on existential threats like nuclear weapons, climate change, asteroid collisions, etc. And inclines me to valuing life more and influences my views on things like medical care, medical science research, the death penalty, and so on. Being an evolutionist likely affects my views on animal welfare and environmentalism. Being a non-moral realist and not subscribing to religious morality inclines me towards utilitarianism and libertarian social ideas, and things like legalising drugs and sex work, and promoting lgbtq+ and gender equality issues etc.
All politicians are worthless lying pieces of complete shit. Every single one, from every single country.
It has nothing to do with a make believe wish granting magic sky despot. (August 29, 2023 at 6:27 am)no one Wrote: All politicians are worthless lying pieces of complete shit. The good ones get swept away by those looking to promote their position and power rather than what is best for the country and it's people

I can’t trust anyone who can be convinced a snake with arms and legs and a donkey communicated with humans.
And many believers believe this life and planet is just a stepping stone to their next life and don’t give that much concern to the planet.
My bad. Sometimes I do generalize. Not all politicians are bad.
Some are dead. |
