I think your scope is too narrow.

Sure, Jews aren't looking to enforce a specific Bible verse by law - but Hasidic Jews in Brooklyn lobby the NYC City Council and NY state legislature to allow them to set lower educational standards for subjects outside of religious teachings. Jews won't compel the entire world not to answer the phone on the Sabbath - but the Jewish state of Israel regularly discriminates against and violates human rights of the minority Arab Muslim population in Israel and in what is considered Palestine.

Hindus aren't forcing anyone to make a sacrifice (?) - but Hindu nationalists in India, given political and social clout by Modi, are literally propagating violence against the minority Muslim population to the point that the Genocide Watch Group is sounding the alarm on violence against Muslims in India.

Golly, thanks for telling me that religions persecute other religions. This is completely new information.

But your reply doesn’t address my original point to FF.

The point is that, for those who are deeply religious, their religiosity influences their politics - and greater public policy - in ways beyond narrowly specific scripture verses or antiquated rituals...

It sounds like FF is just a hypocrite. He wants his worldview to be respected but doesn't feel obliged to grant others the same respect. And while he blames his own choices on his lack of free will, he holds others morally responsible for the things they choose.

I'd be a hypocrite only if I viewed all WVs the same. But I don't.

For example, it isn't hypocritical to not want the views of pedophiles enacted in society.

As for freewill, I don't thinknit exists, so that applies equally to all.

I am totally ethnocentric, and openly so, in that I feel/think some things are more conducive to civilisational progress than others. Science is better than superstition, law is better than anarchy, non-rape better than rape. You may see things differently, that's expected. I only choose to fight for what I hold to be true. I expect others will do the same. Its not hypocritical to think one's opinion the best.

Be very careful. You could get caught in your bike chain, what with all that backpedaling.

And maybe in places like France to be allowed to wear the kippur in state schools.

And they would be against any move to classify circumcision as genital mutilation.  Or the banning of kosher meat under animal rights regulation.

Their religious values influence their voting and advocacy.  And look at the power Judiasm has in Israeli politics (and therefore international politics).

It would be better if no ones political opinions was swayed by religion at all.

(Bold mine)

What if someone’s religion informed them that it was best for government to feed the hungry, house the homeless, and care for the sick. Would you want them to vote that way?

Not on that basis, no. I'd rather they only voted if such a view was informed by reason.

Where have I backpedled? I think I've been consistent throughout. Whatever I believe at any time is what I think correct. How is it possible to even backpedle with such a view?
